An indictment has been prepared against the unlicensed driver Timur Cihantimur, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident, with a request for up to 22.5 years in prison.

The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for Child Crimes has been accepted by the Child Heavy Criminal Court.

EXTRADITION TO TURKEY IS EXPECTED

The indictment prepared by the prosecutor requests that Timur Cihantimur be tried for "causing death and injury by conscious negligence."

However, the indictment also stated that a reduction in the sentence to be given at the end of the trial should be applied due to the defendant being under 18 years old at the time of the incident.

It was noted that there is also a request for a red notice against Cihantimur and that his extradition to Turkey is expected.

HOW THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED

On March 1, 2024, one of the three ATVs in motion in Eyüpsultan, Istanbul broke down and was pulled over to the side of the road.

While the broken-down ATV was being repaired, one of the two vehicles moving in the same direction crashed into the three ATVs parked on the roadside.

Of the five people injured in the accident, 29-year-old Oğuz Murat Aci lost his life.

THEY HAD FLED ABROAD

It was determined that the driver Timur Cihantimur, who caused the accident, left the area in the vehicle of his mother Eylem Tok, who arrived at the scene.

It was established that the mother and son first went to Egypt and then to the USA.

PENALTY REQUESTED FOR EYLEM TOK AND BÜLENT CİHANTİMUR

A separate case has also been opened against Timur Cihantimur's mother Eylem Tok and father Bülent Cihantimur.

If Eylem Tok, who is detained in the USA, is extradited to Turkey, the trial process will begin.

According to the indictment accepted recently, it is planned to start the trial of five defendants, including Tok, on July 13 at the Istanbul 28th Criminal Court of First Instance.

The prosecutor is requesting up to 10 years in prison for Eylem Tok and Bülent Cihantimur for "aiding a criminal" and "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence of a crime."

EXTRADITION PROCESS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED

A decision for the extradition of Eylem Tok to Turkey had been made in the USA. However, Tok's lawyer filed a request to suspend the extradition process.

Following the request, the court decided to temporarily postpone Tok's extradition to Turkey.
