Twelve suspects involved in fraud using fake female profiles on social media have been arrested. In an operation conducted in six provinces centered around Sakarya, movements exceeding 500 million Turkish lira were detected in the accounts of the members of the criminal organization.
On October 6, 2023, a person who applied to the District Gendarmerie Command in Akyazı, Sakarya, reported that he was called from a different number regarding a woman he met on social media, and that the person he spoke with claimed to be under 18 years old. He stated that the suspects, who introduced themselves as mediators, sent settlement documents and hospital reports via WhatsApp and demanded money in exchange for closing the case.
A TOTAL OF 310 THOUSAND LIRA SENT IN 7 TRANSACTIONS
After the victim sent a total of 310,670 lira to these individuals in 7 transactions and then reported being defrauded, the Provincial Gendarmerie Command initiated an investigation into the "qualified fraud" incident. Initially, 8 suspects were identified, and it was assessed that the fraud was carried out by an organized crime group. Under the coordination of the Akyazı Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a financial data analysis was conducted based on correspondence with MASAK, and the report prepared examined the suspects' crimes, HTS, accommodation records, and bank account activities.
500 MILLION LIRA SCAM IN TWO YEARS
With the identification of 14 more connected individuals, it was understood that the incident was organized by 22 suspects who have multiple criminal records for qualified fraud. Suspicious activities exceeding 500 million lira, believed to have been obtained from fraud, were identified in the suspects' accounts over the last two years. It was determined that 9 of the members of the criminal organization, which the teams assessed to consist of 22 people, were detained in various prisons for the crime of "qualified fraud."
12 PEOPLE ARRESTED
Under the coordination of the Akyazı Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, teams from the Provincial Gendarmerie Command captured 11 suspects in an operation conducted at 13 addresses in Sakarya, Mersin, Izmir, Adana, Hatay, and Mardin. During the searches, 13 mobile phones, a flash drive, a computer, an unlicensed pistol, and a stolen motorcycle were seized. After their processing, Ö.T, D.S, Y.D, M.K.A, D.J, M.İ, Y.C.K, S.T, M.E, M.K, and H.İ.İ. were arrested.
THE LEADER OF THE ORGANIZATION IS WANTED
Meanwhile, it was learned that B.E., known as "Pablo," who held a managerial position in the organization, was captured and arrested by the Adana Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams on March 12. Efforts are ongoing to capture B.İ., who has been identified as the leader of the organization and is living abroad under a false identity.
