The Lebanon-based newspaper Al-Akhbar claimed that Egypt has been in intense contact with Washington to prevent Turkey's participation in the planned International Stabilization Force to be deployed in Gaza. It is alleged that Cairo's discussions with Washington aim to limit Ankara's influence in the region.

According to a report by the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, Egypt has been in intense discussions with Washington to prevent Turkey's participation in the International Stabilization Force planned to be deployed in Gaza.

"EGYPT IS ESCALATING TENSIONS"

The report states that the absence of Egyptian Foreign Minister Bedir Abdülati from the Gaza-centered Foreign Ministers' meeting held in Istanbul this week is interpreted as Cairo's rejection of Turkey's desire to participate in the International Stabilization Force; this is claimed to be another indication that "Egypt is escalating tensions towards Turkey."

"CONCERNS ABOUT TURKEY'S INFLUENCE GROWING"

According to Egyptian sources speaking to Al-Akhbar, Cairo aims to "deny Turkey's desire to participate in the International Stabilization Force while giving Turkey a broader role in the restructuring process." The sources expressed that Egypt is concerned about the increasing influence of Turkey in Gaza; they also noted that the country is trying to limit this in light of Israel's rejection of the presence of Turkish forces in the Gaza Strip.

RELATED TO COMPETITION WITH ANKARA

The sources explained that Cairo's rejection is "related to Egypt's security concerns regarding the Gaza border, as well as political concerns about population competition with Ankara." They suggested that discussions with the U.S. on the matter are being conducted in light of "Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates' efforts to present Turkey as an alternative to Egypt in Gaza."

WHAT IS THE INTERNATIONAL STABILIZATION FORCE?

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the establishment of the "International Stabilization Force" as part of a new peace plan aimed at ending the Gaza War. According to the plan announced in September 2025, this multinational security force will undertake tasks such as ensuring security in Gaza, establishing a new Palestinian police force, and overseeing the disarmament and reconstruction of the region.

The force, planned to be established with the participation of Arab and international partners under U.S. leadership, aims to ensure long-term internal security arrangements in the region and facilitate Israel's gradual withdrawal from Gaza. The Washington administration states that this initiative is a critical step in alleviating the humanitarian crisis and preparing the ground for a lasting political solution.
