The Competition Authority imposed a fine of 1 billion 300 million Turkish lira on Frito Lay. Frito Lay will open its stands to competing products. The statement from the Competition Authority is as follows:

The investigation launched to determine whether Frito Lay, known for its Doritos, Ruffles, Lay's, Cheetos, and Çerezza brands, violated the Law by making it difficult for its competitors operating in the packaged chips sector, preventing their sales, and excluding them from the market has been completed.

RECORD FINE FOR THE FAMOUS CHIP COMPANY

Frito Lay, which was found to have engaged in practices aimed at preventing the sales of its competitors at sales points such as grocery stores, markets, and kiosks that purchase packaged chips from it, was fined approximately 1 billion 300 million Turkish lira.

SALE OF COMPETITOR CHIP PRODUCTS IS NOW MANDATORY

The decision also imposed certain obligations on Frito Lay. Some of the obligations imposed on Frito Lay for sales points under 200 square meters are as follows:

At sales points where there are no competitor stands, 30% of the Frito Lay stands will be allocated exclusively for competing products, displayed vertically and visibly. The allocated section will be separated by a separator, and each basket in this section will have a readable label stating, "This section is reserved for competitor chip products." Competing products will also have their place at sales points. In cases where competing products are not available or are out of stock for any reason, this section reserved for competing products will be left empty and will not be filled with Frito Lay products.

FAIRER COMPETITION WILL BE ESTABLISHED IN THE MARKET

No guidance targeting the availability and visibility of competing products will be provided to sales points. Frito Lay will be allowed to place a maximum of one chip stand at sales points. Apart from standard purchasing transactions, no financial benefits will be provided to retail sales points. With this decision, it is aimed to allow Frito Lay's competitors to enter sales points such as kiosks, grocery stores, and small markets, thereby increasing consumer options in the packaged chips market.
