SANCHEZ: THE UNION MUST SUSPEND COOPERATION AGREEMENTS WITH ISRAEL Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, in his statement regarding the relationship between the European Union (EU) and Israel, called on European countries to strengthen EU defense through various joint projects, emphasizing that the union must adopt more resolute moral stances on a global level.
In this context, the Spanish leader stated that it is necessary for the Brussels administration to suspend its cooperation agreement with Israel due to its "open" disrespect for international law.
Sanchez referred to Israel's recent attacks on Lebanon and the assault on the Gaza Strip that began on October 7, 2023, saying, "Let us not allow a new 'Gaza' to occur in Lebanon. Because Europe must act consistently in the face of clear violations of international humanitarian law."
Pedro Sanchez "YES, TOTAL HOSTILITY AGAINST WAR CRIMINALS AND GENOCIDERS" Responding to statements labeling Spain's stance as "hostility" and accusing it of "waging a diplomatic war" against Israel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labor and Social Economy Yolanda Diaz stated, "Yes, total hostility against war criminals and genociders."
Yolanda Diaz “YOU ARE A GENOCIDAL AND CRIMINAL REGIME” Minister of Youth and Childhood Sira Rego also responded to accusations about her country on social media, stating, "We are not slandering you, we are defining you: You are a genocidal and criminal regime, and you will all face the International Criminal Court."
Sira Rego THREATS FROM NETANYAHU Netanyahu, who claimed that Spain has often sided against Tel Aviv, announced today that he has decided to remove Spanish representatives from the Civil-Military Coordination Center established at the military base in Kiryat Gat, southern Israel, to monitor the Gaza agreement by the US. Netanyahu threatened Spain, which he accused of waging a diplomatic war against Israel, saying "it will pay the price for this."
ISRAEL-SPAIN TENSION Spain's decision to immediately open its embassy in Tehran following the temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran led to a new polemic with Israel.
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares stated that they made the decision to open the Tehran Embassy "in light of the two-week ceasefire reached between the US and Iran and to promote this peace effort from both sides," while Israeli Foreign Minister Saar harshly criticized this decision.
In the context of the diplomatic crisis with Israel regarding Spain's recognition of the State of Palestine and its support for Gaza, Israel recalled its ambassador to Madrid in May 2024, and Spain recalled its ambassador to Tel Aviv in September 2025.
Currently, the highest diplomatic representation between the two countries is at the chargé d'affaires level.
