The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey appointed its first chief economist after 6 years. Murat Taşçı, who served at the Federal Reserve for 17 years, became the first person to be appointed to this position following Hakan Kara's departure in 2019.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) has made a new appointment.
17 YEARS AT THE FED
According to a report by Bloomberg News citing sources, Taşçı served for 17 years at the Federal Reserve (Fed) and later worked at JP Morgan Chase. Taşçı was appointed as an advisor to the CBRT last month.
A FIRST IN 6 YEARS
This is the first appointment to this position since Hakan Kara left in 2019.
WHO IS MURAT TAŞCI?
Taşçı began his career in 2006 as an economist at the Cleveland Fed, where he served for nearly 17 years. His work at the Fed includes significant research such as "The Great Resignation Wave and the Paycheck Protection Program" and "The Impact of Minimum Wage Increases on Job Openings." After the Fed, Taşçı worked for about 3 years as a Senior Economist at the American financial giant JPMorgan.
