Galatasaray, in the quarter-finals of the Ziraat Turkey Cup, defeated its eternal rival Fenerbahçe 2-1, securing a spot in the semi-finals and making history for the club.

FOR THE FIRST TIME

The yellow-reds became the first team in history to win both official matches played against Fenerbahçe in a single season at Kadıköy. Cimbom defeated their eternal rival 3-1 in the league match and managed to win 2-1 in the cup. Okan Buruk's students won both derbies played in a single season at Ülker Stadium (previously Şükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium, Fenerbahçe Stadium).

THEY HAD ALSO DEFEATED THEM TWICE IN THE 87-88 SEASON

Galatasaray had previously defeated Fenerbahçe in the 1987-1988 season in a special cup called the TSYD Cup with goals from Tanju Çolak (2) and Kovacevic, winning 3-2, and in the league, they had won 2-1 with goals from Prekazi and Uğur.
