A shocking incident occurred in the city of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Football referee Anis Kalajdzic shot and killed his ex-girlfriend Aldina Jahic while she was in the bathroom of a café. After the incident, Kalajdzic attempted to take his own life, but the gun malfunctioned, and he was arrested shortly after.
According to allegations, Kalajdzic ambushed his ex-girlfriend while she was heading to the gym. Terrified, Jahic sought refuge in a nearby café and managed to call the police. However, before the police arrived, Kalajdzic caught up with Jahic and fired a shot at her with a gun. The 32-year-old Jahic died at the scene.
Kalajdzic is a referee in the Premier League of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and is the son of former football player Avdo Kalajdzic. Avdo Kalajdzic played football for Velez Mostar and Bursaspor from the 1970s to the 1990s, also coaching Velez Mostar and briefly serving as the head coach of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
According to local media, Kalajdzic acquired a gun just a month ago due to threats he received during his refereeing career and had registered it. Sources close to the investigation indicate that the murder may have been premeditated.
Jahic was born in Kalesija and had moved from Sarajevo to Mostar for work. Despite allegedly receiving threats from Kalajdzic, she had not reported them to the authorities. The police believe that the murder likely stemmed from the end of their relationship.
Member of Parliament Admir Cavalic, who knew Jahic, expressed his feelings about the incident:
"It is very difficult to find words for someone's death. Especially when that person is younger than you, a student, someone who calls you 'mentor'…
There was a decade of effort, from initial training to event organization, from international trips to preparing academic articles and projects together. Watching Aldina, seeing her student life and development was incredible. I used to call her a 'philosopher.'
According to social media posts, Jahic was working as a project and event manager at the Atlas Society International. Cavalic described Jahic as follows:
"Aldina could organize an event for a thousand people, write dozens of articles, speak in English in front of a large crowd, provide information about Bosnia and Herzegovina, and make jokes. She could do everything – that’s how I knew her."
The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are looking into the murder.
