Russian forces struck the Turkish ship ORINDA, which was carrying approximately 4,000 tons of liquefied gas (LPG) and was anchored at the Izmail Port in Ukraine's Odesa region. The 16 crew members on board the damaged vessel were evacuated due to the risk of explosion.
Russia continues its attacks in Ukraine. Russian forces targeted the Turkish ship ORINDA, which was carrying approximately 4,000 tons of liquefied gas (LPG) and anchored at the Izmail Port in Ukraine's Odesa region, with a drone. After the attack, residents of Plauru village in Romania were evacuated due to the risk of explosion from the burning ship following the Russian assault.
CREW IS SAFE
The 16-member crew safely evacuated the ship in accordance with emergency procedures and was placed in a safe area.
In a statement made by the company after the attack, the following was noted:
"The health status of all our personnel is good. A fire continues on the ship after the attack, and necessary interventions are being carried out in coordination with the relevant local authorities and officials. Our priority is the safety of our crew, and developments will be shared with the public."
The LPG tanker named Orinda, owned by Orinda Shipping, is 125 meters long and has a deadweight tonnage of 9,353 dwt. It was registered under the Turkish International Ship Registry in April 2023 and flies the Turkish flag.
STATEMENT FROM THE DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF MARITIME AFFAIRS
In a statement regarding the incident, the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs emphasized that there were no casualties or injuries.
Following the incident, Romanian authorities decided to evacuate the village of Plauru near the Ukrainian border.
RUSSIA HAD ALSO STRUCK UKRAINE'S ENERGY FACILITY
As a result of the attack by the Russian army on the energy facility in Odessa belonging to Ukraine's largest energy company DTEK, 36,500 households were left without electricity. Authorities stated that electricity was restored to 4,000 households using backup lines, while repairs for the 32,500 households would take a long time.
