Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev reacted strongly to the drone attack from Iran. Aliyev emphasized that the terrorist act carried out by Iran is an example of ingratitude, stating, "Those scoundrels who carried out this terrorist act against us will regret it." AK Party member Şamil Tayyar also remarked that Aliyev's words would benefit Israel's objectives, asking, "What is the reason for this anger when the incident has not yet been clarified?"

AK Party member Şamil Tayyar criticized Azerbaijani President Aliyev's harsh words regarding Iran.

THEY HAD CARRIED OUT AN ATTACK ON NAHKCHIVAN

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made a statement regarding the attack on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Iran. Describing the attack as a "terrorist act," Aliyev stated, "We will not accept this aggression. The Armed Forces have been instructed to prepare and carry out retaliatory actions."

Aliyev expressed that his country has never been in favor of aggressive policies, stating that they only protect their territorial integrity, and said, "Just as we ended the occupation by Armenia, we are ready to show our strength against any kind of evil power, and they should not forget this in Iran." Reminding that he had conveyed his condolences to the Iranian Embassy in Baku upon the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Aliyev emphasized that the terrorist act carried out by Iran is an example of ingratitude.

"WILL THESE DISHONORABLE ONES REGRET?"

Aliyev pointed out that no other head of state visited any Iranian embassy except for himself, and continued:

"Not appreciating this, belittling it, and showing themselves as low and ungrateful brings no honor to anyone. These dishonorable ones, those who carried out this terrorist act against us will regret it. They should not test our strength. The head of those who want to test our strength was broken through the 'Iron Fist.' Today's incident will yield the same result. Therefore, an action plan regarding this issue must be prepared. All instructions have been given. The Iranian Ambassador to Baku has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a protest note has been delivered. Other diplomatic steps will also be taken. Necessary instructions regarding the border have been given."

This morning, Aliyev noted that the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister called Baku to request assistance from Azerbaijan for the evacuation of Iranian diplomats stranded in Lebanon, and stated: "I immediately instructed to send a plane. They said they were ready to pay for it. I said there was no need for payment, asking when we would help if we do not help in difficult times. Was the response to all this going to be a cowardly, dishonorable blow to Nakhchivan? This stain will never be erased from their ugly and disgusting face. Therefore, all necessary measures will be taken through diplomatic channels. The Ministry of Defense, the State Border Service, and all other special units have been put on the highest state of readiness and must be prepared to carry out any operations."

RESPONSE FROM TAYYAR TO ALIYEV'S ANTI-IRANIAN REMARKS

While Azerbaijani President Aliyev's remarks towards Iran drew attention, criticism came from the AK Party. Şamil Tayyar reacted by saying that Aliyev's words would benefit Israel's objectives:

"On December 25, 2025. A passenger plane belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines was shot down by a Russian missile in Aktau while flying from Baku to Grozny. 38 passengers died. Moreover, Putin also admitted that the plane was shot down by Russian air defense. There was no mention of 'dishonor' nor threats of 'we will chop your heads off.' Now, what is the reason for this anger when Iran said 'we did not launch the missile,' while the incident has not yet been clarified? Is the only reason Israel?"
