THE TRADITION OF "BURNING OF JUDAH" CONTINUES
While various events are organized across Spain during Easter, one of the significant religious periods in the Catholic world, the "burning of Judah" festival in El Burgo stood out.
As part of the tradition that has been ongoing since the 1940s, a figure representing "evil" is chosen and burned each year.
THIS YEAR'S SYMBOL WAS NETANYAHU
This year, the townspeople chose the puppet of Netanyahu, whom they hold responsible for the events in Palestine and the attacks on Iran. The giant puppet, approximately 7 meters tall, was set on fire during the festival held in the town center.
THE FESTIVAL TURNED INTO A PROTEST
As the crowd gathered during the event watched the puppet engulfed in flames with applause, the festival transformed into a protest against Israel. The images quickly spread on social media.
"NO TO WAR AND GENOCIDE" MESSAGE
The town's mayor, Maria Dolores Narvaez, stated that the event has been a long-standing tradition and expressed that they wanted to convey a message of "no to war and genocide" with the figure chosen this year.
The festival held in El Burgo, with a population of approximately 1800, welcomed a large number of visitors this year, just as it does every year.
