After an 11-year-old student in a headscarf in Hatay claimed that she was subjected to the term 'Karabaş' by her teacher, her family filed a complaint with CİMER. Following the complaint, the Hatay Governorship initiated an administrative investigation regarding the matter.
The incident occurred in the Erzin district of Hatay. According to the allegation, H.K. (11), a fifth-grade student studying at a middle school in the district, was addressed by her science teacher with the phrase 'turn to the front, Karabaş' when she turned around to get a pencil from her classmate during the lesson. Unable to hold back her tears in front of her classmates, the headscarf-wearing student H.K. told her father about the situation when she got home. Her father, Harun K. (35), made verbal complaints to the school administration and the District National Education Directorate, as well as a written complaint to CİMER regarding the teacher. It was learned that the Hatay Governorship has initiated an administrative investigation into the matter following the complaints received.
"THE SCHOOL IS THE SCHOOL OF CHAMPIONS" Harun K., who stated that he no longer wants the teacher who addressed his daughter as 'Karabaş' to enter her class, said, "On May 9, my daughter got off the school bus and came to me crying. She said that her science teacher told her in front of the whole class to 'turn to the front, Karabaş.' I then called that teacher. I asked the teacher about the situation. She told me that she apologized to my daughter. 'I apologize to you too, but if you do not accept my apology, you can complain wherever you want,' she said. I first spoke with the school administration. I reported my complaint to them, and then I filed a complaint with the District National Education Directorate. We do not have any issues with the school administration or the other teaching staff because the school is known as the school of champions. It is a school that produces at least 1-2 first-place students in Turkey every year. With God's permission, we will come out of this process with our heads held high. I hope you will follow the process," he said.

My teacher, pointing to my headscarf, said, 'turn to the front, Karabaş.' Then the recess bell rang immediately. When my teacher saw that I started to cry, she called me over and apologized. But I told her that I did not accept her apology, and then she sent me to the bathroom to wash my hands and face. I got off the bus crying, and when my father asked what happened, I explained what our teacher said to me, and he called the teacher. I have dreams too, and I go to this school to realize those dreams. But that teacher really demoralized me. I do not want that teacher to enter our class anymore. My other teachers are very good; they take great care of us and never insult us. My school is known everywhere as the school of champions. I go to this school because I am already at a certain level; I want to become a prosecutor, and that’s why I wanted to go here," she said.
