The General Directorate of Security detained a total of 170 people for propaganda of a terrorist organization and unauthorized demonstrations in operations conducted before and after the Nevruz Festival. In operations carried out in 9 provinces, 72 people were captured, while 98 people were caught in 6 provinces.
It was reported that 170 people were detained in simultaneous operations conducted by the General Directorate of Security (EGM) before and after the Nevruz Festival for propaganda of terrorist organizations and unauthorized demonstrations. In a statement made on EGM's social media account, it was noted that the Nevruz Festival, a harbinger of spring and a symbol of unity, solidarity, and brotherhood, was celebrated with wide participation across Turkey.
170 PEOPLE DETAINED IN 6 PROVINCES
The statement included the following information: "During this process, from March 17 to 22, 2026, in operations carried out by our General Directorate of Security in 9 provinces (Aydın, Batman, Gaziantep, Istanbul, Izmir, Kocaeli, Mardin, Şanlıurfa, and Van); 72 individuals were apprehended for violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911 and for crimes of propaganda for terrorist organizations."
On March 24, 2026, in simultaneous operations conducted in 6 provinces (Istanbul, Diyarbakır, Izmir, Şanlıurfa, Antalya, and Mardin) against individuals identified as making propaganda for terrorist organizations, 98 people were detained.
