The accident that occurred early in the morning on the D-010 highway, which connects Ardahan and the Şavşat district of Artvin and brings Eastern Anatolia to the Black Sea, paralyzed transportation. Especially in the Sahara Pass, where snow, blizzards, and icing are effective during the winter months, a sliding truck completely blocked the road, causing long vehicle queues to form.
The incident took place at the peak of the Sahara Pass. According to the information received, the truck lost control due to the slippery surface and skidded, blocking the road to traffic. With the truck blocking the road, traffic came to a standstill in both directions. Adem Kaya, who was stranded in the area, recorded the moments with his mobile phone.
DOZENS OF VEHICLES WERE STRANDED
With the road closure, many vehicles in the area were unable to proceed. Dozens of vehicles, including heavy-duty vehicles and passenger minibuses, were stranded for a long time. While drivers had to wait in their vehicles, snowfall continued intermittently in the region.
TEAMS WERE MOBILIZED
Upon notification, highway teams were dispatched to the area. It was learned that road opening and rescue operations had begun, and heavy machinery was used to intervene in the location of the sliding truck. The teams made intense efforts to both open the road to traffic and ensure the safe movement of the stranded vehicles.
After the work of the highway teams, the road was gradually opened to traffic.
