The Dölek family, living in the Kozan district of Adana, stated that they have not heard from their son Dr. Furkan Dölek for four days, who is involved in CERN and other significant physics projects. After completing his master's degree in the Physics Department at Çukurova University, Dr. Dölek was sent abroad on a full scholarship by the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority.
The Dölek family, living in the Kozan district of Adana, stated that they have not heard from their son Dr. Furkan Dölek, who has been involved in important physics projects like CERN, for 4 days and expressed their concern for the life of the Turkish scientist. After completing his master's degree in the Physics Department of Çukurova University, Dr. Dölek was sent abroad on a full scholarship by the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority. After completing his doctorate in Switzerland, he was invited to Virginia Tech University in the USA for his academic work in 2023. He has also worked at leading research centers in the world, such as CERN and Fermilab, which is affiliated with the U.S. Department of Energy.
According to allegations, Dr. Dölek identified some irregularities and security vulnerabilities in the laboratories where he worked as a data expert and reported these deficiencies to the U.S. Department of Energy. Following this, he faced intense pressure and mobbing, and was removed from his position. It has been reported that he was detained four days ago, and there has been no news from him since.
HE WAS DETAINED
According to the family's claims, Dr. Dölek's visa was first canceled, stripping him of his legal rights, and then he was not given a departure document from Virginia Tech. The scientist started a solo march to Canada to raise his voice, but was detained in the Mohawk region 4 days ago. His mother, Zuhal Dölek, expressed her concern for her son's life, saying, "My son is doing very important research in the field of physics. He has over 500 articles and more than 20,000 citations. After working as a researcher at CERN, he conducted studies at Virginia Tech and Fermilab. He was targeted because he reported irregularities and incidents of radiation exposure in these laboratories. He was detained for one day on the grounds that he entered the laboratory without permission, although he had been granted permission to collect his belongings. He won the lawsuit he filed, but they did not give him the departure document. He fought for 1.5 years without money, defenseless, and homeless. While trying to walk to Canada to voice the injustices he faced, he was arrested in the Mohawk region. His phone and computer were confiscated. My son is a very valuable scientist. He was working on dark matter and high-energy physics. We just do not want him to be unlawfully detained," she cried and expressed that they are waiting for help from the authorities.
"WE SOLD OUR HOUSE TO SAVE HIM"
Father Hasan Dölek also stated that they sold their house in Adana for their son, saying, "The important work our scientist son is doing is evident. We sold our house in Adana to save him and sent $50,000. But right now, we have not received any news. We no longer have the means to hire a lawyer there. We are worried about him being sent to a prison in El Salvador under the new refugee law. Please, hear our voice," he said.
