In the second wave of operations launched regarding the betting and match-fixing investigation, 37 out of 38 suspects, including many executives and football players, were referred to the courthouse.
In the second wave of the match-fixing and betting operation conducted in 16 provinces centered in Istanbul, 37 of the 38 suspects, including managers and football players, were referred to the courthouse after completing their procedures at the police station.
37 REFERRED TO THE COURT
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had issued an order for a new operation on Friday, December 5, as part of the betting investigation in football, and had issued detention warrants for 46 suspects, including 27 football players.
In the operations carried out by the Cyber Crime Department of the Istanbul Police Department in 16 provinces centered in Istanbul, 38 people were detained, including former Adana Demirspor President Murat Sancak, former referee and football commentator Ahmet Çakar, Fenerbahçe football team captain Mert Hakan Yandaş, Fenerbahçe Congress Member Ersen Dikmen, who is alleged to have placed bets on behalf of Yandaş, Galatasaray's Metehan Baltacı, who had previously received a penalty of deprivation of rights in an earlier betting investigation, and TFF upper-class referee Zorbay Küçük. It was stated that 5 suspects were abroad, while the questioning of 37 of the 38 suspects detained in the operations was completed at the police station. It was reported that commentator Ahmet Çakar was still receiving treatment in the hospital, while the other 37 individuals were first referred to the hospital for a health check. The suspects were then transferred to the Istanbul Courthouse located in Çağlayan, where the investigation is being conducted.
