The objection to the release of Şiyar Alparslan, who video-called his estranged wife in İzmir and held a knife to their children's throats, was accepted at the first hearing. While Alparslan will continue to be tried in detention, the judge's warning during the hearing made a significant impact. The judge warned Alparslan to be a proper father to his children and not to take out his frustrations regarding his problems with his wife on the children.

Fatma Alparslan (26), who decided to divorce due to incompatibility in İzmir, left her 2 children with her husband Şiyar Alparslan (32) and went to Burdur. The moments when Şiyar Alparslan video-called his wife on November 18, 2024, and threatened the children Y.C.A. (7) and B.A. (3) by holding a knife to their throats caused an uproar. The children were handed over to their mother, and Şiyar Alparslan was arrested while new developments regarding the case emerged.

"WHICH OF YOUR CHILDREN WOULD YOU LIKE TO DIE?"

After the incident, the investigation was completed, and the indictment was prepared. The indictment emphasized that the Alparslan couple had a divorce case in the Milas 2nd Family Court. On the day of the incident, it was stated in the indictment that the defendant video-called Fatma Alparslan and sent a message saying, "Answer urgently," and upon this, Fatma Alparslan answered the phone. During the video call, Şiyar Alparslan pointed to B.A. and, referring to both children, asked, "Which of the children would you like to die?" It was also emphasized that he held B.A.'s face with his hand and injured him in a way that could be treated with simple medical intervention. The indictment also stated that the defendant threatened Fatma Alparslan by holding a knife to B.A.'s throat, asking, "Is your insides burning? Should I cut your throat? Would you like to watch it live?"

UP TO 6.5 YEARS IN PRISON SOUGHT

In light of the statements and collected evidence, the prosecutor requested a total of up to 6.5 years in prison for Alparslan for the crimes of "intentional injury" and "threat with a weapon," and the indictment was accepted by the İzmir 29th Criminal Court of First Instance. The defendant, who appeared before the judge on January 29, stated that he regretted the incident and succumbed to his anger. The prosecution, which presented its opinion during the hearing, suggested the release of Şiyar Alparslan, considering the time he spent in prison.

JUDGE WARNED: BE A GOOD FATHER TO YOUR CHILDREN

After the opinion was presented, an interim decision was announced. The judge, who decided to release the defendant, ruled to rectify the deficiencies in the file and postponed the hearing to April 24. After reading the decision, the judge warned the defendant to be a good father to his children and not to take out the problems with his wife on the children.

HE WILL REMAIN IN CUSTODY

The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office appealed the release decision. The appeal made to the heavy penal court was accepted, and in a statement from the prosecutor's office, it was stated, "Although a decision regarding the defendant's release was made at the hearing on January 29, 2025, due to the defendant being convicted of other crimes, he was not released from prison. Following the acceptance of the appeal regarding the release decision by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the defendant will continue to be held in custody for the threats he made against his children without being released from prison."
