ABC News, one of the leading national channels in the USA, will pay 15 million dollars in damages in the defamation case against the elected president Donald Trump. The agreement reached between ABC News and Trump's legal team was made public. Accordingly, ABC News and host George Stephanopoulos agreed to pay 15 million dollars in damages as a charitable donation to "a presidential foundation or museum to be established by or on behalf of the plaintiff" in the defamation case against Donald Trump and to publicly issue an apology. WILL PAY 1 MILLION DOLLARS AS ATTORNEY FEESTrump, who shared a post on X social media regarding the agreement, stated, "This agreement represents a significant legal victory for Trump and emphasizes the importance of accuracy in journalism, especially when it comes to public figures." WHAT HAPPENED?Stephanopoulos had filed a defamation lawsuit due to his repeated statements that the jury found Trump "guilty of sexual assault" 10 times in the E. Jean Carroll case in New York. The 80-year-old writer E. Jean Carroll, from a magazine, revealed that Trump raped her in the dressing room of the Bergdorf Goodman store in New York in the spring of 1996, while Trump denied the allegations. The court jury found Trump guilty of battery, defamation, and sexual harassment in the "rape and defamation" case filed by Carroll in May 2023, but decided that Carroll could not prove the "rape" claim. The court sentenced Trump to pay 5 million dollars for battery and defamation, and 83.3 million dollars in damages to the plaintiff.
