Recep Burhan Ataman, a social media influencer returning from a Halloween party with his female friends in Kağıthane, Istanbul, had an argument with people in a vehicle while in traffic. After a while, he blocked the path of the same vehicle and was shot and seriously injured by 18-year-old Muhammet K.
In Kağıthane, it was claimed that a traffic dispute occurred between social media phenomenon Recep Burhan Ataman (22) and 3 people while returning from a Halloween party with two female friends. About 5 minutes after the incident, Ataman and his friends attacked the 3 individuals in the vehicle they blocked. Muhammet K. (18), who was in the vehicle and drew a gun, fired at Ataman. Ataman, who was seriously injured, was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The moment of the incident was captured by security cameras, and Muhammet K., one of the 3 suspects in custody, was arrested.
FOUGHT WITH TRADESPEOPLE
The incident occurred on Saturday, November 1, around 21:30 in Sultan Selim Neighborhood. It was claimed that social media phenomenon Recep Burhan Ataman attended a Halloween party with his friends Beyza Gizem A. (23) and İrem S. (19). In the evening, the 3 friends, who left the party and got into their vehicle, set off to return home. While driving in traffic, Ataman began to argue with a vehicle driver over yielding the right of way. After the argument, as the parties were separating, Ataman returned to the scene 5 minutes later and blocked the way of 3 individuals who were found to be tradespeople.
FIRED AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE
When Ataman and his female friends attacked the group they tried to get out of the vehicle, a fight broke out among them. While Ataman and his friends were hitting those in the vehicle with punches and kicks, one person who got out of the vehicle drew a gun and fired at Ataman. Ataman, who was seriously injured by a single bullet during the incident, collapsed to the ground in a pool of blood. The moment of the incident was captured by security cameras second by second.
HIS LIFE IS STILL IN DANGER
After the incident, the suspects fled, and upon the notification of nearby citizens, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. After the first intervention by the health teams that arrived at the scene, Ataman was taken to Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital in Sarıyer Seyrantepe Campus by ambulance for treatment. It was learned that Ataman's life is still in danger.
STATEMENTS OF THE GIRLS WERE TAKEN
After the incident, the police from the Kağıthane Patrol Teams started an investigation, examining security camera footage and taking statements from Ataman's female friends. In their statements, the girls said that a discussion had started with the 3 individuals in the black vehicle with the license plate 34 KUH 038 about 5 minutes before the incident, and that they later encountered each other again on the street and had another argument, after which the suspect in the vehicle fired and they fled the scene.
HE SAID HE THREW THE GUN IN THE CEMETERY
In ongoing investigations, it was determined that the suspects were Emirhan Y. (18), Ömer Faruk Y. (18), and Muhammet K. The police from the Kağıthane Patrol Teams caught the suspects in a street in Şirintepe Neighborhood.
Confessing that he was the one who fired, Muhammet K. and the 2 individuals with him were taken into custody. After he stated that he threw the gun he used in the incident into the cemetery, the police conducted a search in the cemetery. No weapon was found during the searches that lasted about 2 hours.
THE SHOOTER WAS ARRESTED, OTHERS WERE RELEASED
After being subjected to a health check at the hospital, the 3 suspects were taken to the police station for questioning. Muhammet K., against whom legal action was initiated for 'attempted murder' and 'violation of the firearms law', was referred to the courthouse.
When brought before the court, Muhammet K. was arrested and sent to prison, while the other 2 suspects were released by the prosecutor's decision after their procedures at the police station. It was learned that the suspects had no criminal records with the police, while it was revealed that Recep Burhan Ataman, who was seriously injured in the incident, had a criminal record with the police for 'deliberately endangering public safety', 'endangering traffic safety', and 'violation of the firearms law.'
