Fraudsters are deceiving second-hand car sellers under the pretext of "deposit." Citizens who carelessly approve the "payment request" notification sent through banking applications are having tens of thousands of lira transferred to the fraudsters' accounts. Experts are warning citizens to be cautious.

The cases of fraud in the second-hand vehicle market continue to rise. The latest method of fraudsters is to pose as buyers, communicate with sellers, and gain trust with the promise of "we will send a deposit."

THEY TRICK PEOPLE WITH "PAYMENT REQUEST"

According to a report by Türkiye Gazetesi, the fraudster who contacts the seller claims that they want to buy the vehicle and will make a deposit payment. However, instead of sending money to the seller, they send a "payment request" notification through a banking application. When the seller approves the notification, thinking that money is coming, they actually transfer money from their own account to the fraudster's account. Many citizens who approve the notification without carefully examining it lose amounts ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 lira from their accounts.

THE BANK CANNOT CANCEL THE TRANSACTION

By the time the victims realize the situation, it is too late. Because the transaction is approved with the person's own consent, banks cannot intervene. Defrauded citizens only receive the response from the bank, "We cannot cancel the transaction because it was completed with your approval."

WARNING FROM EXPERTS

Experts state that this method is not a system vulnerability but a fraud that targets user negligence. Citizens are warned to use only reliable methods such as EFT or wire transfer for deposit payments and to carefully examine "Payment Request" notifications. It is also emphasized that disabling this feature in banking applications would be healthier from a security perspective.
