Due to the earthquakes in the Aegean Sea, an earthquake early warning system has been established for Bodrum in Muğla and the Çeşme district of İzmir. Earthquake expert Dr. Süleyman Tunç stated that there could be an impact from Datça in Muğla to İzmir in the event of a possible earthquake.

As of January 28, a significant increase in seismic activity in the Aegean Sea has resulted in numerous earthquakes. The earthquakes, concentrated about 25 kilometers northeast of Greece's Santorini Island, with depths ranging from 5 to 25 kilometers, have caused concern.

EARLY WARNING SYSTEM ESTABLISHED IN BODRUM AND ÇEŞME

In this context, an early warning system has been established in Muğla's Bodrum and İzmir's Çeşme districts against potential earthquakes. The system was deployed with the support of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality. Earthquake Expert Dr. Süleyman Tunç stated that the early warning system is capable of sharing information with citizens regarding earthquakes that may occur around the Aegean Sea, and added, "We have been working on this for 7 years, and finally, we have reached a point where we can share the earthquake early warning system with the local population for the past 2 years."

"DATÇA-BODRUM IS EXPECTED TO BE MOST AFFECTED"

Earthquake Expert Dr. Tunç continued his remarks: "Scientific studies regarding the earthquakes and the volcanic threat north of Santorini are ongoing. We have established 2 array devices for this situation, which could potentially affect the Aegean coasts, especially from Datça to İzmir. With the array, we have reached a point where we can produce early warning signals of 20 seconds for Bodrum and up to 42 seconds for İzmir by monitoring the earthquakes in this area of the Aegean Sea. One of the most important things in disasters is to prevent secondary disasters. This device can also be used to prevent secondary disasters such as fires and floods that may occur after an earthquake. Since there is enough time for a major earthquake that may occur north of Santorini, we are in a position to share this warning with our citizens, especially in the area up to İzmir. It seems that Datça-Bodrum will be most affected. Additionally, the impact will decrease as we move north."
