Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) President Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained in corruption and terrorism investigations related to the IBB, announced that another investigation has been launched against him for opening a daycare center. İmamoğlu stated, "An investigation has been opened against me for opening a daycare center. I would like to give a statement, but I am currently in custody. We will continue to commit the 'crime' of opening daycare centers."
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is conducting investigations against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and 99 suspects for the crimes of "being a leader of a criminal organization," "being a member of a criminal organization," "extortion," "bribery," "qualified fraud," "illegally obtaining personal data," and "interfering with a tender." Additionally, investigations have been initiated against İmamoğlu, IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, and Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, among 7 other suspects, for the crime of "aiding the PKK/KCK terrorist organization."
STATEMENTS ARE BEING TAKEN
In the operation carried out following the detention orders, 87 suspects, including IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, IMM Advisor Murat Ongun, Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, and singer Ercan Saatçi, were captured and brought to the Istanbul Police Department's Vatan Campus for their statements. Efforts to capture 19 suspects are also ongoing.
"A NEW INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN INITIATED BECAUSE I OPENED A NURSERY"
Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently in custody, announced via his official X account that a new investigation has been initiated against him. Emphasizing that nursery projects will continue, İmamoğlu stated, "A new investigation has been opened against me for opening a nursery. I would have liked to give a statement, but I am currently in custody; otherwise, I would gladly defend the nurseries we have established for the children of this city with all my strength. We will continue to commit the 'crime' of opening nurseries. I entrust the nurseries of our children, who are our future, to our nation."
