At Least 1 Killed In Russian Airstrikes In Ukraine's Odesa, Kyiv Regions

06.09.2023 12:27

Falling rocket fragments cause fire in Fastiv, Bucha districts, no casualties reported, says interior minister.

At least one person was killed on Wednesday during Russian airstrikes in Ukraine's southwestern Odesa and central Kyiv regions.

"Another restless night for Ukrainians. The enemy combinedly attacked Odesa and the Kyiv regions," Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on Telegram.

Search and rescue teams worked at sites of attacks in the Izmail district of the Odesa region, he said, adding that an employee of one of the enterprises in the area was killed.

"In the Kyiv region, as a result of falling rocket fragments, fires were recorded in the Fastiv and Bucha districts," Klymenko further said.

Units of Ukraine's State Emergency Service extinguished the fires, and no deaths or injuries were reported, he added.

In an earlier statement, Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper said that an employee of an agricultural enterprise in the region died from his wounds in hospital.

Kiper said the strikes lasted for almost three hours and took place in Odesa's Izmail district, and destruction and fires were recorded in several settlements.

He also said that objects of port and agricultural infrastructure in the region were damaged, including silos, administrative buildings and agricultural enterprises.

Separately, Serhiy Popko, the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, said on Telegram that missiles were launched on Kyiv, but that all of them were shot down by Ukrainian air defense systems.

Russian authorities have not yet commented on the attacks, and independent verification of Ukraine's claims is difficult due to the ongoing war.

Russian airstrikes in Ukraine have intensified since July after an explosion at the Kerch Bridge, which connects Russia to the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow illegally annexed in 2014.

The ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, which started in February 2022, has killed over 9,500 civilians and wounded more than 17,200, according to the latest UN figures. -
