Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that as of December 8, 2024, a total of 578,000 Syrians have returned to their country.

Minister Yerlikaya made a statement regarding the Syrians who returned to their country since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria on December 8, 2024.

In a statement he made on his social media account, Yerlikaya said, "When the Syrian Civil War began, in accordance with our historical heritage and civilizational values; under the leadership of our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we embraced our Syrian brothers in accordance with human rights and the law. We became a beacon of hope for them in their most difficult times."

"RETURNS HAVE ACCELERATED"

Stating that "Syria regained its freedom a year ago," Yerlikaya continued his statement: "The oppression in Syria has taken its place in the dark pages of history. And after December 8, following these historical developments in Syria, voluntary returns have accelerated.

Now, we are receiving news not of separation, pain, and tears from Syria, but of our Syrian brothers who are reuniting with their homeland, land, and relatives. Syrians who were forced to seek refuge in different countries around the world are rushing back to their homeland to rebuild their country and make it stronger for their children and grandchildren."

"578,000 SYRIANS HAVE RETURNED TO THEIR COUNTRY IN 1 YEAR"

Yerlikaya also stated: "After December 8, 2024, a total of 578,000 Syrians returned to Syria from our country in a voluntary, safe, dignified, and orderly manner. During the period from 2016 to 2025, a total of 1 million 318 thousand of our brothers voluntarily returned to Syria.

We are carrying out the voluntary return processes of our Syrian brothers with high sensitivity and diligence, in coordination with our Migration Management Directorate and all relevant institutions.

I sincerely believe that our Syrian brothers, who learned Turkish and established strong ties with our society during their time in Turkey, will continue to be ambassadors of goodwill between the Turkish and Syrian peoples after they return to their country.

I want to express that this process is not just a return movement; it also means the reconstruction of neighborly relations. Just as before, we stand by our Syrian brothers during the voluntary return process."
