ADDITIONAL MEASURES IN PLACE

Zafer Aydın, the 2nd Class Police Chief and Head of the Traffic Inspection Department of the General Directorate of Security (EGM), stated that additional measures have been implemented in 16 provinces and 20 routes where accidents are concentrated, regarding the inspections to be carried out during the holiday at the control point on the Ankara-Konya highway.

Traffic measures have been increased for safe transportation during the holiday

Aydın stated, "The exit of vehicles that can carry special cargo with a permit document on the highway has been restricted during the holiday from March 19 to 23. From March 21 at 16:00 to March 23 at 01:00, the passage of trucks, tractors, and tankers, especially from Tekirdağ, Bursa, Bozhüyük, Sakarya, Yalova, and Ankara towards Istanbul, has been restricted. In this context, it is expected that our citizens will return to Istanbul in a calmer traffic environment, safely."

Aydın noted that additional measures have been taken in crowded areas such as cemeteries and shopping centers, and explained that with the decision of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, buses with D2 authorization certificates will support passenger transportation with additional trips.

"BUS ACCIDENTS ARE A VERY FINE LINE"

Aydın emphasized that announcements regarding the use of seat belts at intercity bus terminals will continue uninterrupted, stressing that travel safety will be maintained at the highest level.

Aydın conveyed that the measures cover an 11-day period from March 13 to 23, stating: "We will have 10,867 teams on patrol and a total of 45,694 personnel involved in traffic measures during the holiday. Traffic inspections will be carried out by helicopter in 9 provinces and by drone in 81 provinces during the holiday. Additionally, 75 police inspectors will examine the measures taken in our provinces on-site, and our traffic department's 14 teams will be present in the provinces along the routes at different dates for the purpose of control. Also, bus accidents are a very fine line; during the holiday, 896 personnel will travel as civilian duty police officers on 1,194 bus trips."

INSPECTION POINTS CAN BE INQUIRED

Aydın expressed that citizens are sometimes curious about the inspection points on their routes, and continued: "With an application available on the website of our Ministry of Interior, they can inquire about how many inspections will take place along the route they will take. We would like to remind once again that we carry out inspections not to impose fines, but to raise awareness among our citizens and ensure compliance with the rules."
