The diploma of Prof. Dr. Naciye Aylin Ataay Saybaşılı, the Head of the Business Department at Galatasaray University, was revoked by Istanbul University. Saybaşılı submitted her "retirement" application and bid farewell to her academic career at the age of 50.
After the decision to revoke the diploma of Istanbul University, Galatasaray University requested Prof. Dr. Ataay, the Head of the Business Department, to apply for retirement.
28 DIPLOMAS WERE REVOKED
With the decision taken by Istanbul University on March 18, 2025, the bachelor's diplomas of 28 individuals, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, were revoked. The justification for the decision was the allegation of "irregularities" in the horizontal transfer processes in 1990.
THERE WAS A STRIKING NAME ON THE LIST
One of the names on this list was Prof. Dr. Naciye Aylin Ataay Saybaşılı, the Head of the Business Department at Galatasaray University. While Ataay's diploma from Istanbul University was revoked, her doctoral diploma from Sorbonne University in France remains valid.
STUDENTS' SUPPORT ACTION
Following the decision, Galatasaray University students gathered to support their professor. At the meeting held on campus, students chanted slogans like "Don't be silent, if you stay silent, it will be your turn next," and applauded Prof. Dr. Ataay for a long time.
RETIREMENT REQUEST
According to journalist Fatih Altaylı, the administration of Galatasaray University requested Prof. Dr. Ataay to apply for retirement. In response to this request, Ataay submitted her retirement application and bid farewell to her academic career.
SHE RECEIVED THE TITLE OF "PROFESSOR" IN 2018
Naciye Aylin Ataay Saybaşılı, who graduated from Galatasaray High School in 1989, completed her undergraduate and graduate education at the Faculty of Business Administration of Istanbul University. Ataay, who completed her doctorate at both Istanbul University and Sorbonne University, received the title of professor in 2018.
