After the appointment of a trustee to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Administration, bad news came in succession for the main opposition. Due to the trustee decision, the CHP's district congresses in Ataşehir, Sarıyer, and Esenyurt were canceled without being held.
CHP was shaken by a series of bad news coming from Istanbul. Following the dismissal of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Administration and the appointment of a trustee the day before yesterday, district congresses began to be canceled.
ATAŞEHİR CONGRESS CANCELED
The Ataşehir District Election Board ruled that the district congress that the CHP Ataşehir District Presidency wanted to hold on September 13 could not be held. The District Election Board decided not to hold the congress, citing the court's precautionary decision as the reason.
REFERENCE TO THE TRUSTEE DECISION
In a letter sent by the YSK Ataşehir 1st District Election Board to the CHP Ataşehir District Presidency, reference was made to the decision to cancel the Istanbul Provincial Congress.
The letter included the following statements: "An application has been made for the 7th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People's Party of Ataşehir District, planned to be held on 13/09/2025. However, according to the 3rd article of the result section of the interim decision given in the file numbered 2025/254 E. of the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance dated 02/09/2025, it has been decided to 'temporarily suspend the election activities to be held in Istanbul province and districts within the scope of the 39th Ordinary Congress process.' Therefore, it is requested that you be informed that the aforementioned 7th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People's Party of Ataşehir District cannot be held on the specified date."
SARIYER AND ESENYURT DISTRICT CONGRESSES ALSO CANCELED
After Ataşehir, another bad news for the CHP came from Sarıyer and Esenyurt. The CHP Sarıyer and Esenyurt district congresses were also canceled.
WHAT HAPPENED?
A decision was made in the case opened for the cancellation of the CHP Provincial Congress held on October 8, 2023, in Istanbul. The court decided to dismiss Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik and the current administration. It was decided to temporarily suspend 196 delegates from their duties, and the ongoing congress process was also ruled to be halted. A temporary committee was appointed as a trustee under the management of Gürsel Tekin to the Provincial Presidency.
