Former U.S. President Bill Clinton testified in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Clinton, who acknowledged having past connections with Epstein but stated that he was unaware of the crimes Epstein committed, expressed that he cut ties with the pedophile billionaire long before the first confession of guilt. Clinton said that if he had known about Epstein's crimes, he would have reported him, adding, "I saw nothing and did nothing wrong."
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton testified to Congress members in New York as part of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. While Clinton acknowledged having past connections with the billionaire businessman, he insisted that he was "never aware" of Epstein's crimes and emphasized that he cut ties with him long before the first confession of guilt.
"I WAS NEVER AWARE OF HIS CRIMES"
In his testimony, Clinton admitted to having met Epstein in social and public settings in the past but stated that he was unaware of the activities that led to federal sexual abuse charges.
Clinton said, "No matter how many photos you show me, what matters at the end of the day is what I saw and what I didn't see. I saw nothing and did nothing wrong."
The former president noted that he completely severed ties with Epstein after the first confession of guilt in 2008.
"IF I HAD KNOWN, I WOULD HAVE REPORTED HIM MYSELF"
Clinton's most striking remarks came in a section where he referred to his childhood background. Explaining that he grew up in a home where domestic violence occurred, Clinton said: "As someone who grew up in a home with domestic violence, if I had the slightest knowledge of what he was doing, I wouldn't just have avoided getting on his plane; I would have reported him myself and led the call for justice for his crimes, not with sweet deals."
Clinton argued that Epstein managed to hide his crimes for a long time, stating that the information that emerged in the public shocked him as well.
HILLARY CLINTON CONTROVERSY
Clinton criticized the committee for calling his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, to testify. He stated that Hillary Clinton had no connection to Epstein and did not travel with him or visit his properties.
"I DON'T REMEMBER" DEFENSE
The 79-year-old former president indicated that he could often respond with "I don't remember" during his testimony, emphasizing that he would not speculate under oath.
"You will often hear me say 'I don't remember.' This may not be satisfying. But I will not say something I am not sure about," he said.
TESTIMONY RECORDED
While the testimonies of the Clintons were recorded, it was reported that the session was closed to the press. It was stated that the committee chair would decide whether the recordings would be shared with the public later.
HIS NAME APPEARS MANY TIMES IN DOCUMENTS
It had been revealed that Clinton's name appeared in the files released by the Department of Justice related to Epstein at the end of last year.
The files indicated that Clinton traveled at least 16 times on Epstein's private plane and that there were photos of him with women in a hot tub.
Clinton's spokesperson Angel Urena stated that the former president traveled on Epstein's plane for Clinton Foundation trips in the early 2000s, before Epstein was prosecuted for any sexual crimes.
