The Istanbul 45th Civil Court annulled the CHP's congress on October 8, 2023, and appointed a trustee. Following the court's decision, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel expelled Gürsel Tekin, who was part of the trustee committee. After the hearing on September 15, there are discussions that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and his team may share a similar fate.
The 45th Civil Court of Istanbul annulled the CHP's Istanbul congress dated October 8, 2023. Provincial chairman Özgür Çelik and his administration were dismissed. A five-member delegation, including Gürsel Tekin, was appointed as a trustee.
GÜRSEL TEKİN WAS EXPELLED
Following the court's decision, the CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) decided to hold an extraordinary meeting. After the meeting, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, referring to Tekin, stated, "We expelled the person from the party whom we understood would accept the duty from the appointed trustee committee, regardless of their name, and who made a statement in that direction."
ALL EYES TURNED TO SEPTEMBER 15
CHP officials believe that a decision similar to that in Istanbul will be made at the hearing on September 15, meaning a trustee will be appointed. If a trustee is appointed, the court will assign a committee made up of party members to carry the party to a convention. This committee will need to hold the convention within 45 days. If the decision goes in that direction, the convention will take place at the beginning of November.
NOT ABSOLUTE NULLITY, BUT A TRUSTEE
The second option; if an absolute nullity decision is made, due to the previous administration, Kılıçdaroğlu and his team will take over the party. Kılıçdaroğlu and his team will not be obliged to carry the party to a convention within 45 days. However, CHP officials do not believe this possibility will materialize. The Istanbul decision is seen as an important indicator, and there is a prevailing view that a similar decision will be made on September 15, meaning a trustee will be appointed.
A CONVENTION DECISION WILL BE REQUESTED
The person appointed as a trustee will be quickly asked to make a convention decision. In this case, it is believed that the current management of the CHP will emerge stronger from the convention.
IF THE TRUSTEE DOES NOT GO TO THE CONVENTION...
If the CHP trustee does not make a convention decision, the CHP will switch to another strategy. The options of not leaving the headquarters, keeping watch, and resisting will then come into play.
KILIÇDAROĞLU MAY BE EXPELLED
Although the likelihood of an absolute nullity decision in the CHP is considered low, if such a decision is made, it is planned to take the same steps as in Istanbul. In other words, Kılıçdaroğlu and his team, who will take over the party, may be expelled from the party just like Gürsel Tekin.
