The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained as part of the investigations into the money counting footage and the "City Consensus," is expected to be brought to court this evening. While the public closely follows the developments related to the process, it has been learned that President Erdoğan is also opposed to the appointment of a trustee to the IBB.
The fate of the investigation in which 91 people, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, were detained is being closely followed by the public.
ERDOĞAN OPPOSES APPOINTMENT OF A TRUSTEE
While İmamoğlu, who has two different cases against him, is expected to be brought to court this evening, according to information we obtained from AK Party sources as Haberler.com; it was claimed that President Erdoğan instructed his aides to closely monitor the process and that he is opposed to the idea of appointing a trustee to the IMM.
UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES IS A TRUSTEE APPOINTED?
According to the municipal law; if a mayor is removed from office for any reason related to terrorism, then it is possible to appoint a trustee to the relevant municipality. If İmamoğlu is convicted of corruption and bribery rather than terrorism within the scope of the investigation, the possibility of appointing a trustee will be eliminated.
HE EMPHASIZED "CORRUPTION" INSTEAD OF "TERROR"
President Erdoğan drew attention to his emphasis on "corruption" instead of "terror" in his evaluation regarding the investigation into the IMM a few days ago. In his statement, Erdoğan said, "They are resorting to the ease of deceiving the public by confining the issue to political slogans. If they said, 'this diploma is a document obtained in accordance with the rules through hard work,' it would be possible to discuss this with legal arguments. If they said, 'My brother, there is no theft, corruption, injustice, dark, complex relationships in the municipality,' it would be possible for me to discuss this in light of legal evidence. But they are not doing this, they cannot do this. They know best that all of these and much more are true and real."
