The body of 54-year-old Muharrem Çakır was found in the water next to a fishing boat in the Manavgat district of Antalya. The gendarmerie has detained a person in connection with the incident.
A 54-year-old man was found dead in the water next to a fishing boat anchored in the river in the Manavgat district of Antalya. One person, identified as having had a dispute with the deceased during the night, was taken into custody by the gendarmerie.
FOUND IN THE WATER UNDER THE FISHING BOAT
Upon receiving a report from citizens fishing in the Manavgat River in the Kum Road area of the Örnek neighborhood about a corpse in the river, the Manavgat District Gendarmerie Command, JASAT, and 112 health teams were dispatched to the scene. The teams that arrived at the scene determined that the individual found in the water under the fishing boat anchored by the river had lost his life. The deceased was identified as Muharrem Çakır (54), who was found to make a living doing jobs like painting on nearby boats.
1 PERSON TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
Based on information obtained from workers at a nearby shipyard, the gendarmerie determined that Muharrem Çakır had a problem with an individual named S. A. on the fishing boat, and that they had a dispute on the night of the incident. In his initial verbal statement to the gendarmerie, S.A. said he saw the deceased late at night and that there was a dispute regarding the theft of diesel and a lamp from the boat. S.A. stated that he did not see Çakır again after the argument and claimed they did not fight.
CAUSE OF DEATH TO BE DETERMINED BY AUTOPSY
Due to the discovery of the body in the river, the case was handed over to the Coast Guard Manavgat Law Enforcement Support Team, while S.A. was taken into custody by the teams. The body of Muharrem Çakır was sent to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institution for the determination of the cause of death after examinations by the Gendarmerie Crime Scene Investigation team, the forensic doctor, and the public prosecutor.
