ERDEN TIMUR'S STATEMENT IN THE FOOTBALL BETTING INVESTIGATION HAS EMERGED
The details of the statement made by former Galatasaray executive Erden Timur, who was detained as part of the "football betting" investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, have come to light. It is expected that 26 people, including Erden Timur, will be referred to the courthouse as part of the investigation, while the content of Timur's statement has drawn attention.
NO QUESTIONS WERE ASKED ABOUT GALATASARAY AND MATCH-FIXING
According to a news report by Burak Doğan in Yeni Şafak, Erden Timur was not asked any questions regarding Galatasaray, determining match results, or "match-fixing" in his statement to the police. It was also noted that Timur was questioned about his statements regarding the "clean hands operation" he mentioned during his tenure at the Turkish Football Federation (TFF).
"THERE WERE NO CRIME ALLEGATIONS IN OPEN SOURCES IN 2014 AND 2015"
In Timur's statement, it was noted that a person named Veysel Şahin purchased 22 properties in 2014 and 2 properties in 2015, each measuring 57 square meters, from the Nef13 project located in Davutpaşa/Zeytinburnu. Timur stated that these sales were made in installments and followed the standard sales procedures of the time.
The section of Timur's statement highlighted the following assessment:
"In open sources in 2014 and 2015, there is no data regarding illegal betting or any other crime related to Veysel Şahin. Allegations against him have been reflected to the public after 2017."
"THE DEEDS WERE NOT TRANSFERRED, AND WE INFORMED WHEN TRANSFERRING THE COMPANY"
Erden Timur stated that the 24 apartments in question are registered under BTE Kağıthane Real Estate Investment and Trade, that a sales promise contract was made, but the deed transfer did not take place. Timur attributed the reason for this decision to a verbal notification made by the police in 2017.
In summary, Timur made the following claim in his statement:
"In 2017, we were verbally informed about the judicial investigation. We did not transfer the deeds until the date we transferred the company in May 2023. We also informed the authorities taking over the company about this situation."
Timur also stated that all contract samples and documents related to the matter would be submitted to the prosecutor by their lawyers.
"THERE WERE TIMES WE SOLD 100-150 APARTMENTS A DAY"
In another noteworthy section of the statement, Timur emphasized the intensity of the sales processes, stating that it was not possible to know buyers individually in projects of this scale. Timur mentioned that there were periods when they sold 100-150 apartments a day, and even times when more than 490 apartments were sold in two days.
"THERE IS NO POSSIBILITY TO REQUEST CRIMINAL RECORDS ABOUT BUYERS"
Erden Timur argued that it is not a legal obligation for the company to conduct research on buyers, stating, "there is also no possibility to request criminal records." He also provided information about the company's partnership structure and banking relationships during the period when the sales were made.
