After the meeting between Istanbul Deputy Selim Temurci and President Erdogan, another surprising statement came from the Future Party. Party leader Davutoglu stated that if invited, he could also meet with Erdogan, saying "Mr. Erdogan is someone I have had a political relationship with before and also have a legal relationship with in my political career."
The Istanbul Deputy of the Future Party, Selim Temurci, recently met with President Erdogan. After this meeting, there were rumors that Temurci, who had previously served as the AK Party Istanbul Provincial Chairman, would return to the party. Amidst ongoing discussions, a surprising statement came from the Future Party's leader, Ahmet Davutoglu. Davutoglu stated that he could meet with President Erdogan, whom he had previously criticized harshly.
GREEN LIGHT: I WILL MEET
In an interview with T24's Murat Sabuncu, Ahmet Davutoglu stated that he could meet with President Erdogan if he received an invitation. In his statement, Davutoglu said, "Mr. Erdogan is someone I have had a political relationship with, and I believe that we do not have any personal conflicts. In fact, I think that I have tried to defend him against certain dangers that also concern him personally. Currently, Erdogan faces serious personal dangers. If Turkey does not democratize and establish a legitimate legal order, everyone, including Erdogan, will face the danger of revenge. I believe that Turkey's democratization and the establishment of a legitimate legal order will protect Erdogan the most."
"ERDOGAN'S REPUTATION IS TURKEY'S REPUTATION"
Commenting on the possibility of Erdogan meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Davutoglu said, "It is wrong to assume that Mr. Erdogan will immediately return to his old friendships after overcoming all the problems. Now, when I look at Mr. Erdogan, I consider his reputation as the President of my country. Mr. Erdogan's reputation is Turkey's reputation, it is everyone's reputation."
SELIM TEMURCI-ERDOGAN MEETING
When asked about the recent claims regarding the meeting between your party's Istanbul Deputy Selim Temurci and President Erdogan, Ahmet Davutoglu responded as follows: "There has been a serious perception operation targeting our party and our colleagues for a year now. We need to focus on the reasons behind this. The most important reason is that our party has a good understanding of the structures of power and has the potential to provide a real alternative. Since our establishment, we have been trying to be hindered by all kinds of pressure. When these attempts to hinder us failed and our party gained the right to be represented in the Grand National Assembly with 10 valuable MPs, other methods were put into action. After the elections on May 28, rumors were spread periodically that there would be defections from our party. This is a complete character assassination targeting both our party and these colleagues of ours."
"THE PUBLISHED NEWS INCREASED OUR RESISTANCE"
Despite the perception operations carried out insidiously, we took two important steps after May 28. The parliamentary group we formed with the Felicity Party increased the influence of our party's MPs on public opinion, and the Second Grand Congress we held on January 14 consolidated the political power and permanence of our party. The weakening of the ruling party in the local elections led to the reproduction of these perception operations. The news that was repeatedly produced like a false shepherd's tale did not weaken the internal structure of our party, but increased our resistance.
"SELIM BEY HAS PAID A HEAVY PRICE"
Selim Bey is not just any party member. He is one of the six colleagues who were expelled from the AK Party with me on September 12, 2019. He has also paid a heavy price in the past five years, including the attacks and court processes of the Pelican gang. Since we were expelled from the AK Party, what improvements have been made that would lead to a different attitude today?
"NONE OF OUR COLLEAGUES WILL BE PAWNS IN THESE GAMES"
Some circles want to dissolve our parliamentary group first and then undermine our party, which has the potential to be a constructive and determined opposition and a real alternative against the wrong policies of the government. None of our colleagues who represent tens of thousands of Future Party members spread across the entire country, and who have gone through tough struggles, will be pawns in these games by disregarding the rights of these members.
"WE CAN MEET WITH EVERYONE"
Selim Bey has informed me about his meeting with President Erdogan. The answer I gave to the previous question, "Would you meet with Mr. Erdogan?" is also valid for this. Regardless of what we have experienced in the past, we are willing to meet with everyone during this period when our country is going through a severe crisis and regardless of our differences."
