The request for a precautionary measure in the lawsuit filed by the former Mayor of Hatay Metropolitan Municipality, Lütfü Savaş, for the cancellation of the congress was rejected.
The request made by former Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş to the Ankara 31st Civil Court of First Instance for the "immediate removal from office of the CHP MYK, Party Assembly, and High Disciplinary Board with a precautionary decision" was rejected by the court.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Former Hatay Mayor Lütfü Savaş, a member of the CHP, had filed a lawsuit at the Ankara 31st Civil Court of First Instance for the annulment of the CHP congress held on November 4-5, 2023, where Özgür Özel was elected as the new chairman. In the lawsuit petition, it was claimed that the will of the delegates was corrupted, and the removal of the party administration from office was also requested.
In the petition, it was stated that Özgür Özel won the election by only a margin of 18 votes, and it was noted, "If no crime had been committed within the scope of will corruption, it would be clear that if 10 votes had been cast for the other candidate instead of the current chairman, the election would have resulted in favor of the other candidate. If no crimes such as bribery had been committed within the scope of will corruption, the losing candidate would have won the congress by a very high vote margin and would have been elected as the chairman," it was stated.
