Akça said, "The withdrawal of the trustees appointed to DEM Party municipalities and the commission members meeting with Öcalan on İmralı Island would renew the public's trust in the process and demonstrate the commission's goodwill."

Akça conveyed the latest status of the Terror-Free Turkey commission. Stating that the commission's work is at an exciting point, Akça said: "With the commission established in Parliament, we have come to a place where we discuss the political and legal ground. In this context, it is quite exciting. Because from the beginning of the process, that is, since the beginning of this 40-50 year issue, what has always been expressed is that this issue is a political issue, and political issues can reach a solution not through military solutions, but through political and legal solutions.
The fact that the Parliament has realized this, that it has established this commission, by including members from all political parties, except for one party, and has opened the discussion on this, and that the speaker of the assembly is presiding over this, and that a report will soon come out of this commission, which will then turn into a legislative proposal and subsequently into a roadmap, is quite encouraging. We are currently at this point.
"THE TRUSTEES COULD BE REMOVED, COMMISSION MEMBERS COULD HAVE MET ÖCALAN" So I can immediately mention two points. First, to show the goodwill of the commission, to demonstrate that the commission is working and that the political ground is functioning, perhaps the trustees could have been removed. One of the steps that could refresh public trust in this process right now could have been the withdrawal of the ten trustees currently appointed to the municipalities. Secondly, commission members should have gone to the island and met with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan to listen to why he initiated this issue with a conflict process 40 years ago and why he decided to end it.
Another thing is that the roadmap to be created by the commission could have been expected to be formed in a way that encompasses the perspectives of all parties and meets the expectations of the public as much as possible, in a way that is as conciliatory as possible."
