In his speech at the opening meeting of the 28th Term 4th Legislative Year of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, President Erdoğan began his remarks by greeting the members of parliament "with his heartfelt feelings and affection." Expressing that they experience the indescribable pride and excitement from 105 years ago at every parliamentary opening, Erdoğan stated, "As the first president elected by the direct votes of the people, I also share the same excitement with you from this podium, that is, the podium of the nation, and I feel great happiness in being a part of your pride."
STRIKING WORDS FROM PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN Wishing that the new legislative year will bring blessings for the country, the nation, and all humanity, Erdoğan commemorated all the members of parliament who served under the roof of the Assembly and are no longer alive today. In his speech, Erdoğan included the following statements: "I respectfully salute the precious memories of Ali Şükrü Bey, Adnan Menderes, Hasan Polatkan, and Fatin Rüştü Zorlu, who were targeted for their commitment to the nation's trust."
President Erdoğan emphasized that the 28th term's 3rd legislative year, which starts on October 1, 2024, and ends on July 21, 2025, will witness an intense work schedule during a period of historical developments in Turkey, the region, and the world. Stating that the Assembly represents the will of the nation in the best way through its legislative, commission, and parliamentary diplomacy activities, Erdoğan said, "For this reason, I would like to thank all members of our Gazi Assembly and all personnel working under this roof on behalf of myself, my country, and my nation."
"THE ESSENCE IS TO MAKE THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY HAPPY FOREVER" President Erdoğan continued as follows; "In the same way, over the next approximately 10 months; I would like to express our gratitude in advance to each of our parliamentarians who will contribute to legislative activities with their proposals, motions, constructive criticisms, and visionary evaluations that enhance the quality of politics, regardless of political party differences. I wholeheartedly believe that our Grand National Assembly of Turkey, which is the representation and manifestation of national sovereignty, will work with the same spirit, determination, and of course, the same sacrifice in the 4th and subsequent legislative years."
As we always say; the essence is the well-being and peace of the nation and the country, to be able to provide beneficial services and works to this noble nation. The essence is to make the Republic of Turkey, of which we are proud to be citizens, happy, successful, and victorious forever. The essence is to work tirelessly to turn our goals for the Century of Turkey from potential into action, to be able to work day and night. This struggle is not only our duty as the government and the coalition. It is also the primary responsibility of each of our members of parliament who are present in the General Assembly hall of the Supreme Assembly at this moment.
I particularly draw your attention to this; In the path of serving the nation and the country, we are all one, we are together. On the road to a great and strong Turkey, we are all one, we are together. In defending the rights and laws of our nation, we are all one, we are together. In elevating our democracy, for which we have paid many costs, we are all one, we are together. In the preservation and defense of our Republic along with our homeland, flag, and sacred values, we are also all one, we are together. Look, this fate unity was the same during the days when the sounds of cannon echoed from Polatlı; today, nothing has changed. Even if we are in competition in different fields of politics, when it comes to Turkey, it is our responsibility to show the virtue of coming together on a common ground, both for our responsibility to the nation and for our national interests.
"I WISH ALL UNITS OF OUR ASSEMBLY GREAT SUCCESS FROM MY LORD" I would like to remind everyone that those who act with the understanding that if the issue is Turkey, everything else is secondary, have a place above our heads. I wish that the new Legislative Year will be a productive, fruitful, and successful year where the will of our noble nation is manifested in the brightest way; where order and harmony are never disrupted; where respect, tolerance, and reconciliation are prominent. I wish great success in their work to our members of parliament who perform the noble duty of representing our nation, to our political parties, and to all units of our Assembly.
This year, our Grand National Assembly of Turkey, which is celebrating its 105th anniversary, is the will that successfully led and managed the National Struggle and established our Republic. The most critical decisions during the toughest days of the War of Independence were made under this roof, which served as the headquarters of our struggle for the future. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey is indeed a Gazi Assembly. This place has become the manifestation of national will with the principle that "Sovereignty unconditionally belongs to the nation." The Supreme Assembly is also the center of our democracy as the widest consultation mechanism in Turkey's social base.
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey has guided our struggle for development and democratization while crowning the national struggle with victory and granting our nation its independence for 105 years. Today, I wish to emphasize this truth once again: Under the principle of "sovereignty of the national will," which has lasted for 105 years, there are countless achievements in the field of rights and freedoms of our nation, signed, contributed, and tirelessly fought for by the distinguished members of the Supreme Assembly.
On the night of July 15, our Assembly, which fearlessly stood by the nation's trust despite the sonic booms of warplanes and the bombs raining down on it, has been honored with the title of "Gazi" for the second time. This noble roof, which made history by resisting seven invaders during the War of Independence, has proudly inscribed its name in a distinguished place among the world parliaments by repelling the coup attempt on July 15 with the courage befitting it.
Today, here, I have infinite faith that all our members of parliament, who carry out the duty of representing the nation with honor, dignity, and a great sense of responsibility, will always revive the spirit of July 15. On this occasion, I commemorate all our martyrs and veterans who sacrificed their lives for our independence and future, from the first incursions in Malazgirt to the conquest of Istanbul, from the War of Liberation to the epic of July 15. May their souls be blessed, their graves be illuminated, and their places be in paradise.
"OUR ASSEMBLY HAS DEMONSTRATED ITS DIFFERENCE WITH THE 7 JOINT DECLARATIONS IT PUBLISHED" I find it beneficial to state with great pride and satisfaction: The Grand National Assembly of Turkey, which derives its legitimacy directly from our nation, has always stood by the right, the just, and the oppressed.

The strongest response to the genocide that the Israeli government has been carrying out in Gaza and other regions of Palestine for two years; the state terror it has unleashed in the region, has risen from these seats representing our 86 million citizens. Our Parliament, which has become the voice of our nation's conscience with its uncompromising stance against the "mass slaughter" in Gaza, has demonstrated its difference with the 7 joint statements it has published.
In particular, the "Resolution on the Genocide Committed by Israel Against the Palestinian People," accepted by the General Assembly on August 29, has constituted a very strong message for those who turn a blind eye to oppression and those drowning in negligence. The efforts within the Group of Parliaments Supporting Palestine are another success of our Parliament in the context of Gaza and Palestinian diplomacy. In short, this noble body has proudly passed the Gaza test in a manner befitting our history and national character, completely and thoroughly. I sincerely thank our political parties and esteemed members of parliament who have shown solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians. May God be pleased with all of you.
"WE STOOD FIRM BY OUR GAZAN BROTHERS" Last week, we became the loud voice of the Palestinian cause on every platform, especially at the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations that we attended. We maintained our dignified stance against smear campaigns targeting our person, our government, and our country in the strongest way. We never left the brave sons of Gaza, who heroically resist the occupying forces attacking their lands with the world's most modern weapons, alone. By delivering over 102 thousand tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza, completely cutting off trade with Israel 1.5 years ago, and intervening in the Genocide Case opened at the International Court of Justice, we have stood firmly by our Gazan brothers, thanks to many diplomatic, legal, and economic steps that we cannot list here.
The closest witnesses to Turkey's efforts are our Gazan brothers. The Palestinian people know very well what we have done for them and how selflessly we have strived. However, despite this, we see that our country and government are subjected to unjust and outrageous criticisms from circles with a record that is far from bright in this regard, and we feel great sorrow because of this. Neither we nor our friends, with whom we walk together, met the Palestinian cause two years ago like some others; we have dedicated our lives to this cause. God willing, we will continue to fearlessly defend the rights of Palestine and our first qibla, Al-Quds al-Sharif, until our last breath. I have no doubt about this: Hopefully, history will write the Republic of Turkey as a monument of conscience of its time in golden letters because of our principled stance in Gaza.
"THIS SHAME MUST END IMMEDIATELY" I would like to emphasize that it should be particularly known here: In our meeting with American President Mr. Trump, stopping the bloodshed in Gaza was at the top of our agenda. We made our proposals on this issue, showed exit routes, and clearly outlined what is needed for lasting peace. Our principle is this: The winner of war cannot be the loser of a just peace. Our Palestinian brothers, with their honorable struggle, are the nation that deserves peace and tranquility the most in the world. It is the debt of the Islamic world and then the international community to bring the Palestinians together with the lasting peace environment they deserve. Gaza has had enough of blood, tears, and destruction. This shame must end immediately.
We do not want a single more innocent life to be taken, a single more child to die of hunger, or a single more bomb to fall on Gaza. As Turkey, we will continue to work with all our strength for this. Our struggle will continue until an independent, sovereign Palestinian State with territorial integrity, with its capital in East Jerusalem, is established based on the 1967 borders. Despite all the pain experienced and the innocent blood shed, we maintain our hope. Just as God allowed us to witness Syria's freedom after 14 years of darkness, I wholeheartedly believe that, with God's permission, we will also see beautiful days where peace, tranquility, and security prevail "from the river to the sea." I send our messages of solidarity to our Gazan and Palestinian brothers from here; I emphasize that Turkey, which has always been by their side, will continue to be with them in the future, God willing.
ERDOĞAN THANKED 2 PARTIES At this time last year, at the beginning of the new legislative term, I had pointed out the importance of strengthening the home front from this podium; I expressed my wishes for our Parliament to work in a manner that would set an example for society, with cooperation, alliance, consensus, and mutual respect, both with the government and the opposition. On the same day, the Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party, Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, shared his thoughts for the construction of a terrorism-free Turkey, both with his kind demeanor in the General Assembly and with his visionary statements made outside the Parliament. In the past year, historic steps have been taken towards our goal of a terrorism-free Turkey, and significant progress has been made. On this occasion, I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, who is one of the architects of our ideal of a terrorism-free Turkey, with his vast political experience, knowledge, and determination, on behalf of my country and my nation. Similarly, I extend my gratitude to the DEM Party delegation and management, which has made significant contributions to the elimination of terrorism in Turkey with their constructive stance and efforts during this one-year period.
"I REMEMBER SIRRI SÜREYYA ÖNDER WITH MERCY" I also remember with mercy Mr. Sırrı Süreyya Önder, the Istanbul Deputy, who worked until his last breath for the demolition of the wall of terror and for peace and brotherhood to prevail in every inch of our country. In the past year, the terrorist organization has stopped its attacks, declared that it has disbanded, and burned its weapons in a symbolic ceremony. The scourge of terrorism, which has caused tens of thousands of casualties and an economic loss of 2 trillion dollars since 1984, has thus come to the point of ending.
