In the Tarsus district of Mersin, a child caused the death of his mother, and the security camera footage of the elevator accident has emerged. The footage shows the moments of the incident occurring while Pelin's husband came to rescue her from the elevator that was stuck on the 2nd floor.
The incident occurred yesterday morning in a 11-story apartment building located in the Altaylılar neighborhood of Tarsus, Mersin. Pelin Kıyga (33), a mother of one, took the elevator to go to work from her apartment on the 7th floor. At that moment, the elevator got stuck on the 2nd floor and then crashed to the ground. Upon notification of the situation, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. The woman, who was taken to the district state hospital by ambulance, unfortunately lost her life despite all interventions. Kıyga's funeral was held yesterday at the Tarsus South Cemetery after the prayer. It was learned that Pelin's husband, Gökhan Kıyga, also broke his leg while trying to save her.

In a written statement from the district governorate, it was stated, "At around 7:30 AM on 30.09.2025, due to the acceleration of the weight of the elevator cabin's concrete blocks falling to the ground along with the cabin, our citizen who was seriously injured has passed away despite all interventions at the hospital. We wish God's mercy upon our citizen and patience and condolences to their family and relatives. The judicial and administrative investigation initiated regarding this unfortunate incident is continuing comprehensively."
FOOTAGE OF THE MOMENTS EMERGED
Today, security camera footage from the apartment related to the elevator accident was released. In the footage, Gökhan Kıyga is seen helplessly standing by the malfunctioning elevator on the 2nd floor, calling for help on the phone while the moment of the fall occurred. The footage also captured the grieving husband first putting his head in his hands and then running downstairs.
Furthermore, it has been learned that within the framework of the investigation opened by the Tarsus Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it is expected that actions will be taken regarding the suspect or suspects following the expert examination related to the incident.
