Abdurrahim Aksoy, a founding member of the DEVA Party and the 22nd Term Bitlis Deputy, announced that he has resigned from his party. Aksoy stated that he made this decision due to the New Path Group, one of the components of his party, deciding not to send a member to the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission delegation that meets with Abdullah Öcalan in Imralı.
Abdurrahim Aksoy, one of the founders of the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) and the 22nd Term Bitlis Deputy, announced his resignation, describing his party's decision not to participate in the Imralı delegation as an 'escape from responsibility.'
"A DEMOCRATIC POLITICAL ATTITUDE COULD NOT BE SHOWN AT THIS HISTORICAL TURNING POINT; RESPONSIBILITY WAS NOT TAKEN FOR A SOLUTION"
In a statement he made via social media, Aksoy argued that the DEVA Party has distanced itself from taking responsibility in solving the Kurdish issue.
Describing the party management's decision as "timid," Aksoy included the following statements in his announcement: "The decision of the DEVA Party, of which I am a founder and member, not to participate in the Imralı delegation has revealed an attitude that avoids taking responsibility for solving the Kurdish issue.
Although it appears to accept the fundamental rights of the Kurdish people, its avoidance of responsibility; not providing a member to the commission, and even evading participation in the commission, displaying a cowardly and timid behavior; instead of producing a solution, it has drifted into a Pollyanna-like attitude, positioning itself in the classic political line that avoids taking risks, which solves no problems for any party.
At this historical turning point, which is vital for the Kurdish people, a democratic political attitude could not be shown; responsibility was not taken for a solution. Therefore, I respectfully announce to the public that I am terminating my membership in the DEVA Party as of today."
WHAT HAPPENED?
The National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission visited Imralı Island today and met with the terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. In the vote held at the commission's 18th meeting for the decision, the CHP and the New Welfare Party did not participate; while the AK Party, MHP, DEM Party, TİP, and EMEP voted 'Yes'; the DSP, HÜDA-PAR, and the Democratic Party voted 'No.' The New Path Group, of which the DEVA Party is a component, remained neutral. After the vote, the CHP and the New Path Group announced that they would not provide members to the delegation going to Imralı. The Democratic Party also announced that it had decided to withdraw from the commission.
WHO IS ABDURRAHIM AKSOY?
Abdurrahim Aksoy was born in 1959 in the Tatvan district of Bitlis. He completed his primary and secondary education in Tatvan. He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law. He started his business life as an industrialist in Tatvan. He worked for many years in the construction and industrial sectors in Istanbul and Iraq. He served as the AK Party Bitlis Deputy between 2002 and 2007. Later, he left his party and became one of the founders of the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA). Aksoy, who has held various positions in organizations such as the Tatvan Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Bitlis Education and Promotion Foundation, is married and has 5 children.
