The flow of the Tunca River in Edirne has stopped due to extreme heat and insufficient rainfall causing drought. The river has been covered with clumps of grass.

Many cities in Turkey are facing the threat of drought due to extreme heat. One of those cities is Edirne, the largest city in Thrace.

GRASSES HAVE COVERED THE TUNCA RIVER

The water level in the Tunca River, one of Edirne's important water sources, has dropped to a critical level due to evaporation caused by drought and extreme heat since June. The water flow around the Tunca Bridge has largely stopped, and the riverbed has been covered with large clumps of grass, reeds, and algae.

"I'VE NEVER SEEN IT LIKE THIS BEFORE"

Saadettin Muhçu, a local resident, stated that the region is experiencing the driest and hottest period in recent years, saying, "I am 60 years old, and I am seeing this river like this for the first time. It didn't dry up this much before, and there was water. The river is covered with grass and has turned into a swamp. We are experiencing this bad period due to the hot weather, lack of rain, and decreasing groundwater."
