The incident occurred yesterday on 819th Street in the Kabakoz neighborhood of the Karasu district in Sakarya. According to the information obtained, three individuals began waiting for Ömer Akbay (35), with whom they had a feud, inside a parked car. As Akbay arrived, one of the suspects got out of the vehicle and repeatedly fired at Akbay from behind with a gun he was carrying.
AMBUSHED AND KILLED, HIS CHILD INJURED
After the attack, the suspects quickly fled the scene by getting into the vehicle they arrived in. Ömer Akbay, who was severely injured by bullets hitting various parts of his body, collapsed to the ground. At that moment, Akbay's 4-year-old son was lightly injured as a result of being hit by a ricochet bullet. Upon the notification of nearby citizens to the 112 Emergency Call Center, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Ömer Akbay and his son, who received first aid at the scene, were taken to Karasu State Hospital. Despite all the interventions made at the hospital, severely injured Akbay could not be saved and passed away. It was reported that his lightly injured son was in good health.
THE ATTACK CAPTURED ON SECURITY CAMERA
The moment of the incident was captured second by second on the security camera of a nearby business. The footage shows one of the three suspects in the parked vehicle getting out and firing repeatedly at Ömer Akbay, who was walking behind with bags in his hands. As the bullets hit, Akbay collapses to the ground, while a ricochet bullet hits a child named M.Ö.K. who was in front of Akbay. After the attack, the suspects quickly fled the scene by getting into the vehicle they arrived in.
FEUD EXTENDING FROM ISTANBUL TO SAKARYA
Police teams, who launched a large-scale investigation into the matter, determined that the incident stemmed from a feud that occurred in Istanbul. The teams also identified that one of the suspects, M.Ç., had numerous criminal records and was wanted.
ALLEGATIONS OF GANG WARFARE
It was claimed that the incident was related to a confrontation between two gangs in Istanbul. Immediately after the attack, threatening posts with images of weapons were made from an account opened on social media. Efforts are ongoing to capture the suspects.
HORRIFYING POSTS
After the attack, a post was made on a social media account allegedly connected to the incident, sharing images of weapons and stating, "This is just the beginning," along with threatening messages. The name of the deceased, Ömer Akbay, was explicitly mentioned, and footage recorded in the area after the attack was shared, stating, "Everyone involved in this will get what they deserve."
"DIRECT ACTION TAKEN BY GRABBING HIM BY THE NECK"
Hours after the incident, a post was made on the same social platform stating, "First of all, my dear brothers and elders, I feel the need to explain that we have never shot at any woman, child, or innocent person until now. Those who talk about honor and dignity have no actions other than writing on social media platforms. Those who talk to us about honor and enmity are the same ones who shoot at a 16-year-old bringing bread home, who ask for pictures from 15-year-old girls, and who shoot at pregnant women, aren't you? Everyone knows everything in this world. Out of fear, you didn't go to see your dead body. We know you, and this world knows you. If we had targeted a child or a woman, we would have opened fire from the car and left. As seen in the video, it was a direct action taken by grabbing him by the neck like a lion. So keep deceiving yourselves with such false posts," the statement read. Teams from the Sakarya Police Department continue their efforts to identify who made the posts and to capture the suspects involved in the incident.
