President Erdoğan went to China to attend the 25th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. During the summit, President Erdoğan will meet with Russian leader Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, and he will bring the brutality occurring in Gaza to the summit's agenda, making a call for a "global conscience."
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in Tianjin, China, to attend the 25th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Erdoğan was welcomed at Binhai International Airport by Chinese State Minister Ley Haicao, Turkey's Ambassador to Beijing Selçuk Ünal, and embassy staff.
Erdoğan, along with his wife Emine Erdoğan, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat, AK Party Deputy Chairman Halit Yerebakan, MHP Deputy Chairman İsmail Faruk Aksu, MIT President İbrahim Kalın, Presidential Communication Director Burhanettin Duran, Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün, and Presidential Private Secretary Hasan Doğan also came to Tianjin.
ERDOĞAN'S MEETING TRAFFIC IS INTENSE President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will attend a dinner hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping in honor of the leaders as part of the 25th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization today. Erdoğan will participate in the summit as Xi Jinping's guest. Erdoğan is expected to address the expanded format summit session tomorrow.
In both his speech and bilateral meetings, Erdoğan will bring up the genocide occurring in Gaza and send a message to the world: "What is happening is hurting the global conscience. It is time to take action." Erdoğan is expected to highlight the inadequacy of the global system in solving problems and bring the reconstruction of it to the agenda.
Erdoğan will also hold bilateral meetings with other leaders, including his host counterpart Xi Jinping. Russian President Vladimir Putin will also meet with Xi Jinping and other leaders at the summit. Erdoğan is scheduled to meet with Jinping today.
Turkey has been represented at the head of state level in the SCO, of which it has been a "dialogue partner" since 2012, and President Erdoğan is visiting China after 6 years.
THE WORLD'S EYES ARE ON THIS SUMMIT The city of Tianjin, China, will host a two-day summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) starting today. The SCO summit will be the heart of international diplomacy beating in Tianjin. On August 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin, who negotiated with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska regarding Ukraine, will meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and other leaders this time.
PUTIN'S LONGEST VISIT WILL BE RECORDED Russian leader Putin's visit to China, which will last 4 days, will be considered the longest trip he has made outside of Russia since he came to power in 2000. Putin is not only going to China to attend the SCO summit. He will hold a separate bilateral summit with Xi Jinping, discussing political, economic, and military issues in depth. While the U.S. tries to drive a wedge between China and Russia, it is expected that Putin and Xi will present a united front.
LEADERS OF MORE THAN 20 COUNTRIES ARE ATTENDING It has been reported that more than 20 country leaders will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit to be held in Tianjin, China, on August 31-September 1. Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Liu Bin provided information about the organization of the SCO Summit at a press conference held in the capital Beijing.
Deputy Minister Liu stated that Chinese President Xi Jinping will host the "SCO Council of Heads of State Meeting," which will be attended by member countries, as well as the "SCO Plus Meeting," which will include observer countries and dialogue partners, and that more than 20 heads of state and government from various countries and leaders of more than 10 international organizations will participate in the summit.
Liu stated that the leaders of member countries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, and Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko will attend the summit.
Deputy Minister Liu also mentioned that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan would attend the summit, along with the presidents of observer and dialogue partner countries, including Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, Nepalese Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith, and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
