Due to the snowfall that has shown its effects across the country, news of school holidays has come one after another. In addition to Istanbul, education has been suspended for one day in Kocaeli, Ordu, Muş, Siirt, Gümüşhane, Hakkari, Yozgat, Bayburt, Trabzon, Giresun, Erzincan, Sivas, Artvin, Kars, Ağrı, Sakarya, Bingöl, Ardahan, Bitlis, Çanakkale, Erzurum, Bilecik, Yalova, Tunceli, Rize, and Kırklareli.
After the warnings from the General Directorate of Meteorology, snowfall has started to affect many regions of the country. Due to heavy snowfall, schools have been closed in 6 provinces.
ISTANBUL
The Governor of Istanbul, Davut Gül, stated in a social media post that according to data received from the General Directorate of Meteorology, heavy snowfall and icing are expected throughout the province. Gül shared that "Considering the safety of our students and citizens, education will be suspended in all educational institutions (kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, and high schools) across Istanbul on February 20, 2025. Additionally, female employees working in public institutions who are disabled or have children under 8 years old, as well as pregnant personnel, will also be considered on administrative leave." The governor also warned citizens to be careful and cautious, advising them not to use private vehicles unless necessary.
KOCAELİ
In a statement from the Kocaeli Governorship, it was noted that "Due to the assessment that adverse weather conditions will continue throughout Kocaeli and the risk of icing will occur; on Thursday, February 20, 2025, education and training will be suspended for one day in all formal and non-formal educational institutions (including rehabilitation centers and Quran courses) across our province. Female personnel who are pregnant, disabled, or have children attending kindergartens and nurseries (except those whose work is essential) will be considered on administrative leave for one day," it was stated.
ORDU
In a written statement from the governorship, it was noted that heavy snowfall continues in the inner parts of the city, and there is a risk of freezing and icing. It was reported that education would be suspended tomorrow in all schools in Aybastı, Çamaş, Çatalpınar, Çaybaşı, Gölköy, Gürgentepe, İkizce, Kabadüz, Kabataş, Korgan, Kumru, Mesudiye, and Ulubey districts, as well as in some schools in Akkuş, Altınordu, Fatsa, Gülyalı, Perşembe, and Ünye districts. The statement included, "Public officials who are pregnant and disabled in the districts where education is completely suspended, as well as in the places where it is partially suspended, will also be considered on administrative leave on the same day."
MUŞ
Due to adverse weather conditions, education will be suspended tomorrow across Muş. In a statement from the governorship, it was noted that according to the latest meteorological assessment, snowfall is expected to continue in the city. It was reported that due to the risk of icing, education will be suspended tomorrow in all educational institutions, except for universities, and that female personnel who are pregnant or disabled, as well as those with children attending kindergartens and nurseries, will also be considered on administrative leave.
KIRKLARELİ
In the Vize district of Kırklareli, education will be suspended tomorrow due to heavy snowfall. In a statement from the Vize District Governorship, it was stated that due to heavy snowfall and icing, education will be suspended in all educational institutions in the district on February 20. It was noted that public personnel who are pregnant, disabled, or have chronic illnesses will also be considered on leave tomorrow.

Governor Kemal Kızılkaya announced on his social media account that due to the expected heavy snowfall and icing in the city, transportation education will be suspended for one day in the Baykan, Pervari, and Şirvan districts. Kızılkaya stated, "According to data received from the General Directorate of Meteorology, heavy snowfall and icing are expected throughout our province. Transportation education will be suspended for one day on February 20, 2025, in the Baykan, Pervari, and Şirvan districts due to heavy snowfall and icing risk. I would like to remind our citizens and drivers to travel according to the weather conditions and that they can reach us 24/7 through the 112 Emergency Call Center if they need anything," he said.
