The UK-based consultancy company Rho Motion, which works in the field of electric vehicles, has published data regarding sales in October. Accordingly, 1.72 million hybrid and electric cars were sold worldwide in October. Sales showed a 35% increase year-on-year in October. This figure surpassed the previous record sales volume of 50,000 seen in September 2024, thus setting a new record for global electric vehicle sales in October. RECORD BROKEN IN CHINAOf the sales in question, 1.2 million occurred in China, where sales increased by 6% month-on-month and 54% year-on-year, setting a new record. In the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom, sales rose by 0.8% last month, reaching 260,000. Meanwhile, total electric vehicle sales worldwide from January to October reached 13.3 million, marking a 24% increase. During this period, total sales included 8.4 million in China, 2.5 million in the EU and the UK, and 1.4 million in the US and Canada. The remaining portion of sales (1 million) occurred in other regions of the world. SECOND CONSECUTIVE MONTH OF RECORDSCharles Lester, Data Manager at Rho Motion, stated in his assessment of the data that the global electric vehicle market has reached record sales for the second consecutive month in October, indicating a resurgence. Noting that most of the sales occurred in China, Lester said, "Western manufacturers clearly feel threatened by this situation." Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that the European automotive industry is facing many challenges, including high production costs, declining demand, and increasing competition from China, especially in electric vehicles. Volkswagen, Europe's largest car manufacturer, is planning to close a factory in Germany for the first time due to high production costs.
