Stating that "Climate change manifests itself sometimes with drought, sometimes with hail and agricultural frost," Erdoğan said, "Agricultural production, which is dependent on weather conditions, is among the areas most affected by climate change. Due to sudden drops in air temperatures, we faced frost, snowfall, and hail events in certain regions of our country. I wish a speedy recovery to all our producers and farmers."
"DAMAGE OCCURRED IN FRUIT GROUPS"
Continuing his statements, Erdoğan said, "Our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has been closely monitoring the process since day one. From the fact that our food supply security is at risk to the possibility of becoming dependent on foreign countries, they have raised many concerns. With the statement made by our Ministry of Agriculture yesterday, the first picture we are facing has been revealed. There is no risk that will negatively affect domestic food supply in strategic agricultural products, especially grains, legumes, and seeds. However, there are some issues with certain fruit varieties in specific regions. Our initial findings indicate that damage has occurred in different degrees in fruit groups such as apricots, apples, peaches, and nectarines."
MINISTRY HAS TAKEN ACTION
Speaking about the measures taken, Erdoğan said, "In today's cabinet meeting, we thoroughly evaluated what we can do to compensate for the losses of our producers. Our Ministry of Agriculture has started working to compensate for the expenses incurred by farmers registered in the farmer registration system who do not have agricultural frost insurance for their damaged crops according to the damage rate. We have given the necessary instructions for our Minister of Agriculture to carry out the matter in close consultation with our farmers. Personally, we will also closely monitor these efforts with great sensitivity."
