After the consecutive warnings from the Meteorology and AKOM, Istanbul entered the new year with snow. The snowfall, which showed its effects in the first hours of the new year in Istanbul, negatively impacted life in some districts.
IT WAS EFFECTIVE IN SARIYER AND ARNAVUTKÖY
After the warnings from the meteorology for the city, the expected snowfall began to show its effects in some areas. In the European side, the snow, which intensified in Sarıyer and Arnavutköy, covered the roads, rooftops of houses, and cars with a white blanket.
VEHICLES STRUGGLED TO MOVE
On Büyükdere Street in Sarıyer, vehicles struggled to move due to the snow, while some vehicles skidded. The snow also caused traffic congestion in the area.
VEHICLES GOT STUCK ON THE ROAD
In the Sarıyer area of the North Marmara Highway, some vehicles got stuck on the road. Some drivers began to pull their vehicles to the roadside and wait. On the road where snow plows were working, salting operations were also being carried out.
IN BEYKOZ, THEY HAD TO PUSH THEIR VEHICLES
In the Anatolian side, the snowfall, which continued to increase in Beykoz, Ümraniye, and Çekmeköy, caused citizens to experience difficult moments. In Beykoz, where vehicles struggled to move, citizens pushed the stuck vehicles to get them moving.
SNOW DEPTH REACHED 10 CENTIMETERS
Vehicles that could not climb the snow-covered slopes created a traffic jam on the road. In some areas of the district's higher elevations, it was observed that the snow depth reached approximately 10 centimeters.
In some points of the district, material damage accidents also occurred. Due to reduced visibility on the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, drivers moved slowly with their vehicles.
