Honda made a notable decision in the Turkish automotive market while publishing its price list for January 2026. The Civic model, which has been breaking sales records for years, was removed from the product range as of January 2026. The brand cited the "decline in sedan demand" as the reason, while rumors suggest that high customs duties are behind the decision.
The Japanese automotive giant Honda has published its first price list for the new year. However, it is not the price increases that have drawn public attention, but rather the radical decision the brand has made regarding the Turkish market. Honda announced that it has halted the sales of the Civic, one of the most preferred models in Turkey for many years.
"DEMAND FOR SEDANS HAS DECREASED"
In the information provided by the company, it was stated that the decision is based on changes in consumer habits. The statement emphasized that there is a declining trend in interest in the sedan body type both globally and in Turkey, and it was expressed that the Civic model has been temporarily removed from the product range due to changing market conditions.
CLAIM THAT THIS DECISION WAS MADE DUE TO CUSTOMS TAX
On the other hand, it is being discussed in industry circles that there are economic reasons behind this decision. The import of the Civic to Turkey and the additional customs tax of 25% applied to these vehicles have caused the model to lose its competitive price advantage. It is estimated that the increase in costs has influenced Honda management's decision to halt sales.
SOLD 14,688 VEHICLES IN 11 MONTHS
It was noted that Honda sold a total of 14,688 vehicles in the 11 months of 2025. During the same period, it was recorded that its Japanese competitors Toyota sold 80,477 units, while Nissan sold 26,899 units.
IN TURKEY SINCE 1987
The history of the Honda Civic in Turkey dates back quite a long time. Civic models have been on Turkish roads since 1987, and it is known that especially from the 1996 model onwards, it has created a wide user base.
