In the Doğanbey area of Seferihisar district in İzmir, the forest fire, fueled by strong winds, advanced towards the Doğankent Site, where summer houses are located, during the night hours. Following the decision made, the site, which has 345 houses, was quickly evacuated.
NUMEROUS HOUSES BECAME UNUSABLE
The İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry and fire brigade teams intervened in the fire. According to initial reports, many houses in the site became unusable, and 2 vehicles were damaged. Firefighters are continuing cooling efforts in the burning houses. As the daylight broke, residents of the site began to come to the area to check their homes.
"THEY TRIED TO SAVE BUT IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE"
Görkem Yarıcı stated that he came to the site with his wife to support the firefighting efforts during the night. Yarıcı noted that there was no electricity or water in the site at that time, saying, "My wife and I tried to help with shovels and picks. The firefighters tried to save but it was not possible to reach in time. It was very bad. We have been in this site since 1999. There are 345 houses in the site, and some of them burned. We live in section A-1 of the site. Our backyard was turned to ashes." he said.
"MAY GOD NOT LET ANYONE EXPERIENCE THIS"
Efe Can Özdemir mentioned that his father and uncle live in the site. Özdemir expressed that he was not in the site during the fire, stating, "Only my father was at home. He was evacuated and saved. They experienced very difficult moments, everyone lost their homes. There was a fire in 2009, but it did not reach this site. It was smaller in scale. May God not let anyone experience this. Nothing happened to our house in the fire. My father and mother returned to their home." he said.
THE SITE DAMAGED BY THE FIRE WAS CAPTURED FROM THE AIR
Muharrem Yarıcı also noted that he tried to help the firefighters all night. Meanwhile, the Doğankent Site, which was damaged by the fire, was captured from the air.
