The national player stated that he had bet at a young age, saying, "I was 19-20 years old. I didn't know I would become such a footballer. When my older brother said it was forbidden, I pulled back."
The Turkish Football Federation announced 1024 football players who were found to have placed bets as part of an ongoing betting investigation into professional leagues and referred these names to the Professional Football Discipline Board (PFDK). One of these names was Galatasaray player Eren Elmalı.

Galatasaray player Eren Elmalı, who was referred to the PFDK, made statements to Mehmet Arslan, confessing that he had placed bets in the past.

The 25-year-old national player stated that he had placed bets at a young age but had not played since then, saying, "I was 19-20 years old. I didn't know I would be such a football player. When my brother said it was forbidden, I pulled back."

After these statements, Eren Elmalı also published a statement on his social media account regarding his referral to the PFDK as part of the betting investigation.
Here is Eren Elmalı's statement;
"Today, I saw in the news that my name appeared in the disciplinary investigation conducted by the Turkish Football Federation.
First of all, I want to clearly state that the reason my name is in this file is due to a betting transaction made about five years ago, outside of my own team. Since that day, I have neither placed any bets nor have I had the slightest connection to this issue.
Football is not just a profession for me; it is a passion that is at the center of my life. I have always lived this passion with honesty, with my hard work, and with the struggle I show on the field. I have reached the point I am at today with these values.
