A verdict has been reached in the case regarding the murder of a 35-year-old woman in Burdur, who was stabbed to death by her husband's girlfriend's friend. The defendant, who was tried for murder, was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for "intentional killing of a woman," and received an additional 8 years and 6 months in prison for "violating the inviolability of the home" and "carrying and using knives or other tools without permission." Her friend was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for participating in the premeditated murder.
Özge Bedir, a mother of 2 children, was stabbed to death, and her husband Adnan Bedir, who is being tried without detention, received a court decision regarding the defendants Seray Öztürk and Tülay Alan.
The incident occurred on June 10 of last year around 21:00 in a site located in the Bağlar neighborhood. Following a report to the 112 Emergency Call Center, teams were directed to Özge Bedir's home. Upon entering the house after opening the door, the teams found Özge Bedir, a mother of 2 children aged 36 days, stabbed in the corridor. The medical team determined that Özge Bedir had lost her life. The 36-day-old baby, who was sleeping in bed, was taken under police protection. Adnan Bedir, who was outside with their 5-year-old daughter at the time of the incident, cried when he learned that his wife had been killed upon returning home.
HUSBAND ALSO DETAINED The police detained suspects Tülay Alan and Seray Öztürk at a house in Yeni Mahalle following a tip-off related to the incident. Tülay Alan, who was seen to have been injured by a knife on both hands, was taken to the police station after her treatment. Based on the statements of Tülay Alan and Seray Öztürk, the murdered woman's husband, Adnan Bedir, was also detained. In her statement, Seray Öztürk said that she had been in a romantic relationship with Adnan Bedir for 3 years and learned that he was married 2 years ago. Tülay Alan, a friend of Öztürk, also stated in her testimony, "Adnan told us that his wife was home alone. So we went to talk to Özge. Since Özge knew Seray, she asked me to do the talking. After we entered the house, I heard the sound of the door locking. Özge attacked me with a knife, cutting my hands, and I retaliated." After their procedures at the police station, the 3 suspects were sent to court and were arrested. Özge Bedir's funeral was held. The couple's daughters and 36-day-old baby boy were handed over to their relatives.
DECISION HEARING HELD A case was filed against the suspects at the Burdur 2nd High Criminal Court. Tülay Alan was charged with 'premeditated murder', 'violation of the inviolability of the dwelling', and 'carrying and using knives or other tools without permission', while Seray Öztürk was charged with 'participation in premeditated murder', and Adnan Bedir was charged with 'aiding in premeditated murder', all facing aggravated life imprisonment. The decision hearing of the case was held.
"MY GRANDDAUGHTER CRIES EVERY NIGHT" Özge Bedir's mother, Şefike Çetin, who spoke at the hearing, said, "My granddaughter cries every night. She says, 'I want to see my mom. My mom wouldn't be this late.' My daughter had no fault at all. I want them to be punished in the harshest way."
Father Mehmet Çetin also stated, "Adnan Bedir is responsible from the beginning to the end of this matter. My daughter does not know these girls. He had my daughter killed knowingly. I want them to be punished in the harshest way," he said.
"I DEFENDED MYSELF" Defendant Seray Öztürk said, "I have been in prison for 11 months. I do not want to serve a sentence for a crime I did not commit. I do not accept the charges against me. I spent my birthday in prison last week. I request my release and acquittal."
Tülay Alan also stated, "I definitely went to talk to Özge. I wish it hadn't happened. I defended myself. I couldn't call for help because my phone was not with me. I wish such an event had never happened. A university student does not ruin a life. My only aim was to talk. If I had known that such an event would happen, I would never have gone. I had dreams. My psychology is not good in prison. The moment of the incident keeps coming to my mind," she said.
Adnan Bedir, who was released during the trial process, stated, "I did not guide anyone in any way. I was released under house arrest, but I have not seen my children yet. I request my acquittal."
DECISION ANNOUNCED The court panel announced its decision after the final words. Defendant Tülay Alan was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for 'premeditated murder against a woman', and Seray Öztürk was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for 'instigating premeditated murder against a woman'. The court panel decided that there was no need for a reduction in the sentences. Adnan Bedir was acquitted, and the decision to not leave the residence was lifted.
Özge Bedir's father Mehmet Çetin and mother Şefike Çetin reacted to the acquittal decision outside the courthouse.
