The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned during a UN Security Council meeting titled "The Situation in the Middle East" that the conflicts between Israel and Hezbollah could "turn Lebanon into hell." The Secretary-General stated, "The gates of hell are opening in Lebanon. As I said to the General Assembly yesterday, we should all be concerned about this. Lebanon is on the brink of the abyss." THEY WILL STRENGTHEN THE ARMED FORCESGuterres emphasized the need to respect Lebanon's sovereignty and stated that they support all efforts to strengthen the Lebanese Armed Forces. Antonio Guterres shared information that since October, due to the conflicts between Israel and Hezbollah, approximately 200,000 people in Lebanon and more than 60,000 in northern Israel have been forced to leave their homes. "THE BLOODIEST DAY"Guterres, stating that "Monday was the bloodiest day experienced in Lebanon for a generation," cited the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, reporting that as a result of Israeli attacks on Monday and Tuesday, 569 people were killed, including 50 children and 94 women, and more than 1,800 were injured. The UN Secretary-General called for an immediate end to hostilities, adding, "The people of Lebanon, the people of Israel, and the people of the world cannot afford to see Lebanon become another Gaza."
